Its still your choice. Although there are many interpretations as to what Hell is. I believe its a choice between the good life here and the bad life here. Alot of ppl think all this hell and heaven stuff is futuristic. I however believe you enter into one or the other the moment you make the choice. And contrary to what some might say about once saved always saved, you can change your mind constantly up to and until you die.

Is it blackmail when a firefighter says "Take my hand or you'll fall into the flames?"

Now you might say, "but God is the one who set the fire! He's the one who made up all the rules and said we'll die if we don't obey them."

Then the Christian will respond, "maybe so, but it was our choice to play with the fire."

The message of Christianity is that we broke the law, but God is not going to punish us for it if we trust in him. That's not blackmail, that's great news.

Depends on wheter or not you believe in it.

Cant blackmail you if you dont believe in God in the first place right?

Besides, the definition of blackmail is to hodl an object or information over someone to coerce them to do something for you.

Religion helps people. Maybe not everyone needs it, but there are massive amounts of people who have bettered their lives and the lives of people around them for it.

Speak not in ignorance lest you become the thing you hate.

There are aspects of all forms of all religions that are blackmail. Not just Christianity. They all have their man-made myths so the leaders could control the masses through fear.

Brings up the problem of free will, doesn't it? If you could prove beyond a doubt that God existed, then you would have no choice but to believe in him -- who wants hell? If there is just enough evidence that one plausibly could believe one way or the other, then the people who like God will believe in him, and the people who don't won't.

Since God is honest, he has to give us fair warning, but since he values free will, he cannot just appear and demand belief from the unwilling (that would be overbearing).

So, if you think that you could do better than God, then how else could God handle things?

If God never stood up for himself by punishing sin, who would respect him?

That's the way a few people like to preach it. Christianity, in a few ways, is a very arrogant religion. It believes it's better than the other religions and it's the only acceptable religion. God I believe isn't like that. If he is as loving as we think he is and created all of us with a choice on what we do, he'll accept other religions as well. There may be no perfect religion to adhere to. Just believe in what you want. that's all I have to say.

Christianity should be a way of life. Showing others respect, and the love of God.
Everything done or said, should be for the glory of God. IE: Helping others when you see a need, and not patting yourself on the back, or expecting others to.
Do I ever make mistakes? YES!!!
You do not have to believe.. you should, but you have free will to turn away. Just remember, God never leaves you, you leave God. Turn around, and see the Lord's face, reach for His hand.. or just keep walking. Your choice.. That's how much our Lord loves us.

no.. it's not blackmail it's a way of life and a belief. you aren't supposed to believe in God just so you don't g to hell. that's the wrong way to look at it. christianity is to believe in a loving god that will improve your lfestyl if you truly depend on Him and you'll go to heaven.

Heh, some Christians seem to make it so, but not all Christians. I don't believe that's true. I would assume that the God figure I know of would judge a person based on strenght of character -- not lack of religion.
