How did you make the move without risking the friendship? Thats what I'm worried about

Yep. Had a friend of about 8 years, then we got together for 3 with the explicit stipulation that no matter what happens between us as gf/bf it would not carry over into our friendship afterwards. after a while, she wanted to settle down (marriage, kids) i wasn't into that, so she found another guy to marry and i couldn't be happier for her, since it is more important to me that she be happy than be with me.
Never had a smoother, more painless 'breakup', ever. I still see her and her hub once in a while but they're kinda busy with kids and all.

Yes, turned into an 11 year relationship. Just came about by her asking me out when I was by her workplace (she was a lifeguard at a nearby state park).
