If you have no family, no buisiness venture and are not getting married to a US citizen then it is hard. Forget the green card lottery, they will not accept UK citizen's, ie were not a poor country..
Your best bet is go online , type "emmigrating USA" if i recall there's a site called "visaplus" they will send you info and if u still want to go ahead, they will tell u for a small fee whether you can go or not, or what you should do to be accepted. Incidently if they believe you have no chance whatsoever they refund your cash.

If you get an employer in the US to sponsor you, then as soon as your visa is available, you can live and work here. If you get married than it could take up to 2 years depending on the country you are from. It doesn't matter what your current position is in your country, what matters is that you follow the procedures to apply for a visa, then your green card. If you don't have any prospective employer, and you are not able to marry a citizen or resident (this has to be a real marriage by the way or you will not get the green card, and what I mean is you cant fraudulently marry someone for the sake of working and living in the US). You can also apply to go to school here, but that is very costly. Finally to answer you questions, if none of what I have stated apply to you right now, then your chances is slim to none. Sorry, and I hope I was helpful

Tell us where you are now. Just arrange to get a work visa somehow, as if for any other country. Check with the USPS if you want to continue doing that kind of work.
If you come as an illegal, you're taking a chance and might be deported.

Even if you got to live in Canada or US you would have a problem finding a job. Its has gotten to the point that you have people with master degrees working at gas stations

Depends where you're from. Google "Green Card Lottery," one of the results should take you a local criteria page.
