Just walk up 2 him and start a conversation about anything sports, weather, jobs, whatever. Your nerves will start to relax and then the shyness will go away.

Stand close - maybe brush up against him once in a while - be direct don't play the game - direct but not confrontational - you don't have to make a commitment or anything just suggest that you would like to go out- say a real day and time and activity - lets go see ( insert name of movie) on Saturday night and I'll buy ya a cheezeburger afterwards. Same stuff we have to do for you guys.
