I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.
Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* Running Your Own Boarding Kennels by David Cavill
* Building, Buying and Operating a Boarding Kennel by James Krack
* Kennel Building and Management (Howell Reference Books) by Mario Migliorini
There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

If you are looking into a training or boarding kennel, you want to check with state and local requirements. Also check federal ones. There may be limits on how small of a piece of property you can own, building specifications, zoning specifications, etc. It is not cheap to start. If you are looking to breed to make money, if done correctly, you loose money in breeding. It depends on what you are wanting to accomplish.

Well check in your state to see if you need a license first. IF SO, go get one. THEN you can have the appropriate cageing, water dishes, food, shelter unit, etc for the business. It is pretty simple I think. But Make sure there is always someone on the property to watch over the animals so in case of an emergency they can be saved. Make sure you have insurance too.
