Chicago is a great place to visit in the summer. We have wonderful baseball and football teams, lots of free concerts and an amusement park you'll love -- Six Flags Great America, which is about 30-plus miles north of the city. There are lots of kiddy rides, too. And Kohl's Children's Museum in suburban Wilmette may be interesting for her. A few more hours north is Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Noah's Ark water park is one of the largest in the world, with something for everyone, and great areas for toddlers, too. If you prefer camping, you might try the Michigan Dunes State Park, which is one the other side of Lake Michigan from Chicago.

It would help to know if there's a budget for this trip and if you want to fly to a foreign country or if you need to stay within the USA, how much driving you really want to do, if you'll be camping or staying in motels? Approximately where do you live now? And always keeping in mind that travelling long distances with a toddler are NEVER fun...you might not want to go too far from home. If you were to go to an amusement park who would stay with your daughter if you and your g/f wanted to go on a ride? You might be stuck in "kiddie rides" all day with a child with you. Perhaps an amusement park with your g/f would be a nice weekend getaway without your daughter some time?

I just got back from LA - weather's great, Disneyland's right there, plenty of pro sports options, nice beach, and good night life if you can break away from the tot for an evening. Plus you can drive up Pacific Coast Highway or cruise the Napa vineyards if you're looking for something more relaxing. I had measured expecations, but went out for a wedding, and was very pleasantly surprised.

I have a great idea!! I read your other questions and you live in FL and do not want to stay in FL for your vacation, right? How about San Antonio, TX. It is a great place. There is a SUPER water park, and a six flags, I think. Stay on the "riverwalk"--it is so much fun there--visit the alamo!!
Funny thing is I try to go to Florida for everyone of my vacations!! I love the Gulf Coast and Disney!!

I live in San Diego, CA, and it's great here for a family vacation. Lots to do. The beach, Sea World, The Zoo/Wild Animal park, great shopping, Disneyland, Mexico. You should check it out on line. I think you guys would have a great time here.

It's very hot in most places in August. You should go to the mountains - or if funds permit, to a place like Alaska or northern Canada. See the sports in the Fall, and cool off in August.
