I'd say religious indoctrination of the youth curtails personal freedom....they are forced into a belief system before they are even old enough to understand what it means...then more than just a few never bother to think about if that religion is the correct way for them let alone if it's the truth.

No it doesn't. Nobody is forcing anyone to practice a given religion.

People are perfectly free to stop practicing their religion if they feel it curtails their personal freedom too much. They're not going to be put in jail or burned at the stake.

They're not going to be punished in any way for their decision to stop practicing their religion -- not unless the country is ruled under Islamic religious law or something.

No offense, but it's ludicrous to think that religion curtails your personal freedom. You're perfectly free to do what you want. At your own spiritual risk, of course.

yes, it does EXACTLY that. religion and government should ALWAYS be kept separate. a democracy that stands behind 1 faith, is not a democracy at all! we were 'given' this life to enjoy, we have the 'free will' that no other animal on this planet has.
we were meant to use our OWN minds, live our OWN life's, not have a 'man' read to us from an ancient book, and tell us how we 'should' live life, or what this fictional "god" character considers to be sin. there is not a more tear jerking plight in our worthless society, than that of religion. religion this the ultimate emotional human crutch, what i mean is that people use it as something to emotionally lean on for support. many cannot comprehend that this is IT. this is, our life, our world, our mess. most use the belief of a creator and afterlife hope, just so they can get through the fuking day. our situation as a global community is in such a state of disarray, it is overwhelming to the masses, thus the crutch. it is for the sad blind people that my heart goes out to. only when you have nothing to lean on, you can only lean on yourself. after you are comfortable with understanding that you are all you have in this shithole of neon, carbon dioxide, and hate, the sooner you can open your mind and see everything for what it is. thanks for the 2 points, and letting me vent alittle.

There is a difference between religion and spirituality, unfortunately, just as much as God and the Church are two separate entities.

Personally, I do not align myself with any particular formal religion. I believe in a higher power and I believe in the basic concepts of love, respect, honor, and compassion. The only way this curtails MY personal freedom is by keeping me from doing stupid things that would hurt myself or someone else.

You shouldn't get too frustrated by others whose beliefs differ from yours. Their beliefs are every bit as valid to them as yours are to you. There is no need to convert them to your way of thinking, such action only belies your insecurity in your own beliefs.

It's called, "live and let live."

Maybe they don't care. Religions exist to provide people with something they need. Whether that's a sense of belonging, a feeling of being closer to God, or comfort in the rituals, people choose religion. Therefore, they're exercising their own personal freedom.

Plenty of people see it & recognise it, few vocalize it, and even fewer really care about the historical greivences that can be legitimately marshaled against organized religion. This is the third question today in which I have had to bring the idea of keeping our individual beliefs as just that: we can stll have our one true God without being oppressive or repressive about it.

church leaders curtail freedoms, true relegion just means you can never hit an orphan or widow.

religion=185129791514=53=8=h
god=7154=17=8=h
h=god=good angel=angel of death

and over time MARCH APRIL MAY show just who H is and to be was.

thus god was hated because a don wanted him as a personal slave and then god was tortured even though He was an orphan.

so for your failure to stop it remember for all time god hates you. but not his family.

Only those who see religion as a crutch say it takes away personal freedom! Looking to a higher power-Jehovah is freedom within its self!

They probably see it and feel that it's necessary to have some control on personal freedoms. Government also controls personal freedom but I doubt we'd do well without some form of it.

As a Christian, the bible says that Jesus came to set us free from our sin. I believe I am free, but if I use my freedom for ill use, I become a slave to sin, because I've given in to what the evil one wants me to do, and start listening to what he says I am(useless, no good, bad, ect.) I do agree that many religions hold people in bondage. If religion is all about doing certain things to gain salvation or acceptance, that's not freedom. Jesus said that all we have to do is believe in Him, and we would be free. He didn't say we had to do anything but believe. I chose to abstain from things like getting drunk, stealing, lying, cheating, etc., not because I can't do them, but because they will hurt me, and hurt my relationship with God.
