I think it's interesting that so many people who have responded think this question belittles *religion*, which is probably part of the answer to your question. But it is entirely possible that some thoughtful people recognize the allegory of myth, its application to actual phenomena of the psyche and life in general. When treated this way it can actually give one insight, just read Joseph Campbell. Most religion has devolved from this useful form of mythos (sometimes illustrated through historical examples) to semantic and/or dogmatic table pounding and thoughtless ritual. But I think yahoo probably just tried to avoid a potentially larger fight than your (conspicuously singular) question presents.

because so many people believe it is real. Im not sure if there is a god or heaven etc, but it is a nice thought. I will try to live my life in a good way just in case. A little bit off topic but I think that religion may have come about because without it we would have had no boundries. People would have done what ever made them happy no matter the expense to others. Religion serves a purpose.... I controls the population... can you imagine how many people would do evil things if they thought that there was no eternal consequence. It seemed like a good idea at the time and look how well it has worked!

I've wondered this myself. Perhaps the authors believe that formalized religion and written examples of spirituality are a more advanced stag of religion, and mythology and folklore are reflections of early and current primitive societies. If this is true, sometime in the future there will be a third category when the visions of today are considered passe.

It is simply easier to keep the two as separate categories. There are many people who do not believe in God, but spirituality and mythology are essentially two different categories. Christians and athiests/agnostics are all entitled to and justified in their beliefs.

Either way, someone will be offended, so Yahoo probably decided to err on the side of the majority. I'm sure they'd catch much more flak from Christians if they combined the two, than they do from Athiests by keeping them separate...

Evaluating the standard & proof!...it's very obvious that THIS religion & spirituallity forum has been tainted by man and in reallity should be in the category with mytholgy & folklore!.....why?...because of the different opinions, theology, man-made views, etc. etc. etc.....where religion/spirituallity should be in a class all by it's self because it has nothing to do with man-made opinions, views, theology, etc. etc. etc.....It has to do with a HIGHER SUPREME BEING (GOD).......ps if more people on this religious/spiritual forum would suggest to categorize these different sections, then it would be hardly no Fights & Disagreements because everyone would be on one accord with what they choose to believe!...Fair Enough!

Other religion is based on historical happenings and historical people, events and places.
