Hate to say it is Chocolate no more the city is being filled everyday with more of other races of people Chocolate is the minority in New Orleans right now maybe on the Westbank is more chocolate, but to answer your question is the amount of history the city holds. The different cultures the Spanish, French and so forth, Voodoo and the fact that you can party all night in the French Quarters speaks for itself.

oh yeah the street cars are not running right now they are still being repaired in some areas you maybe able to ride them on Canal Street New Orleans repairs things for tourists first rather than its citizens.

Fine seafood dining, somewhat spicy in flavor ( cajun cusine).

The French Quarter and related historic sites dating pre-Civil War, Civil War and beyond.

Mardi Gras: Have the cash and/or credit card(s) ready. You just have to be in New Orleans during Feburary (or whenever they have the parades) to see it.

The Aquarium / IMAX: both are whiz-bang cool attractions.

Streetcar rides: yeah, they're a tad different....but still have that cool feel to them.

Bourbon Street (see Mardi Gras), fun no matter what time of the year you walk down that street....just have 4 or more people with you at night.

New Orleans Saints football: the ONLY team to NEVER make it to the Super Bowl : but the team STILL TO THIS DAY, have die-hard loyal fans locally AND nation-wide. I understand there's a noticable following of Saints fans in England, too.

To appreciate it, you need to live their. Many NOLA residents don't get sept up in the Mardi Gras mess and Saints Games, those are pretty touristy. But the French quarter, when you get past the tourist stuff, is a zenith of art and food, and an infusion french, carribean, and african culture. There are wonderful resturants (Delmonico's is my fav) and tons of things to do. The D-Day museum, aquarium, etc. But there is also the architecture. The houses are beautiful, the spanish moss, ironwork embellishments, the style in general is a reflection of the city's very rich and important history that goes back over 300 years. NOLA has a laot of problems, especially after Katrina, but its a gerat, diverse city that will prove to be resillient and rise out of the disaster of last year.

For one the city is under sea level. Why would people want to live in a big hole in the ground! LOL Another is Mardi Gras which started in the 1700's. Next I was engaged there, and my baby girl had heart surgery there at Children's Hospital. The doctors there are some of the best in the world. Oh, yea and they still use street cars. There really cool.
One more thing It's a chocolate city!!!! LOL

I'm really interested to see how New Orleans plans to support an NFL franchise now. They've got much more important business to tend to, and the people who have returned are going to be spending their money on more important things.

Before Katrina I would say the theaters (not movie theaters, the REAL theaters), but since they were badly damaged, I would say post Katrina the most interesting thing is when you can literally drive over one canal and everything goes from bright green to dead grass and all dark and dingy and full of destruction. It seems as though you move from a color TV set to a black and white tv set. I would say that one neighborhood being destroyed while another barely is damaged at all is very interesting. Not fun to look at, but interesting from an emotional standpoint I guess.

Go to the historic cemeteries. Very creepy, yet very compelling. Also go to Slidell in the northern part of N.O. Take a swamp boat tour... Its one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen!!

The fact that the Saints drafted Reggie Bush when they have McAllister already...that was very interesting to see, they could have used other positions...line man maybe...

But I don't think you wanted football related interest.
