he was a great and lovable dog but when he turned 6 months i got him these steak tricks and i think he got sort of aggresive when i would only give him 3 a day(it said that he was only to have 3 a doy on the bag). he would jump up and bite my hands like if i still have some.he often now bites me. it doesn't reay hurt so i guess you can call it a nible. i don't know what to do. i can't go feed him without being bit. i'm afraid my dad might want to give him away. is there anything i can do?? he is only aggresive to me not to anyone else. he listens to anyone else but me. i have stop taking him on walks because of how he acts with me. i can no longer control him. i also think he is playing sometimes. i don't want him to do that. any advice??? help please!!

You are dealing with a dog that has hit his "terrible twos", as they are referred to in humans. He is learning that he can control some things now, and is trying to get more of the goodies from you. He listens more to your dad because he recognizes him as the pack leader. However, to him you are more of a sibling. I would suggest that you learn about clicker training - it is easy to learn and the dogs learn quickly how to behave, and they love it. Get some great treats and cut them up in tiny pieces to use for training such as the "logs" of meat they sell in the pet stores. Keep the log in the refridgerator once you open it up or it will spoil. Join yahoo group Clicker Solutions to learn from others about clicker training and other dog issues. When he "nips" your hands, yelp in a high pitch like you are a puppy, and turn away from him. When he acts nicely, then pay attention to him. Get a clicker training book such as Click for Joy. Labs are fantastic dogs, but need to be trained, as every dog does, in a positive, reward based manner. Work with him by learning how to train him and you will be rewarded with a wonderful friend for many years.

The dog has determined that you are lower on the totem pole than he is....you have let him walk all over you I suggest you need to reassert your dominance because otherwise he will end up really hurting you some day. Next time you go to give him a treat and he bites at you put the trest right back in the bag and say NO and walk away. Also dont just give him a treat when he wants it make him EARN it by doing a trick or whatever. Try checking this out it is called NILF (Nothing in life is free) and it is a training technique used to reassert dominance over aggressive dogs that have learned they can push you around. Here is a website with some basic tips on how to practice NILF.... http://www.pets.ca/articles/article-dog_nilf.htm

Your dog thinks that he is dominant over you, you need to show him that YOU'RE the dominant one. You need to do this before things get further out of control and you get hurt. You can do this by rolling him over on his back for about a minute or so. Also, if he sleeps in the same room as you, make sure that he doesn't sleep higher from the ground than you. When you're telling him to do things, you need to use a firm voice. If you're under the age of about 15, I strongly suggest that you have someone else in the room when you do this. If none of this has worked (or for some reason you couldn't do this) don't be left alone with the dog, you could get hurt.

If u can't handle him than I suggest finding him another home. He is only 6 months old and he still needs 2 be trained and taught how 2 act. It probably has little 2 do with the treats but the fact that he is still a puppy and needs structure and training! Good Luck!

Dogs are pack animals and he has learned that he can listen to your father and brother and he is looking at them as head of the pack, and you are more like a sister, and doesnt have to listen to you. You have to teach him you are higher in the pack and he does have to do what you say. When he is fed his dinner try feeding him out of your hand and tell him to sit before hand and dont let him up until you say it is ok. If you take him out tell him to sit. Dont let him do anything fun until you let him know it is ok. Its a lot of work but he will know where he stands and in the long run you and him will be happier. When he doesnt do something you do not like tell him no in a stern voice bring him next to you and tell him or make him sit this lets him know you were unhappy with him when he does come next to you and sits and stays reward him and let him know this was a good thing. Good luck!!!

Nueter him. Many dogs will not listen to females if they are not fixed. Your dog does not see you as the dominate force. You must nueter your dog and correct his behavior. Maybe you should stop giving him the treats unless he is good and does not bite you.
hellokitty,
Your answer does not help nor solve anything, and as a Pit Bull owner I am still saddened by this close minded view on my breed as well as many other breeds making the BSL list. "Blame the deed not the breed"

hav him neutered if he isn't already. stop those treats as they may have something in them that makes him hyper? anyway,
it is really easy to train a pup this young, sit, shake hands, lay down. get some puppy yogurt drop treats or freeze dried meat treats hat you can keep in your pocket out of sight and away from his nose. you need to be firm(not mean and no punishments) push his butt down while saying "SIT!" and then give him a treat. keep repeating this over the next few days or until he "gets it". do the same with shake hands...etc....
to take him walks you might need to get him a muzzel until he it properly trained. you can try going to petsmart as they having puppy training classes and i think they are pretty reasonable as far as price.
only give treats occassionally!

He's got it in his head that he's higher than you in the pack. You have to show him that you're the boss and higher in the pecking order. Don't slap him or yell but be very firm. You can't allow him to keep doing that. Look on the internet for sites on "dog behavior". Also, watch Cesar Milan, the dog whisperer guy, on National Geographic Channel, or find his site on the internet. He's just young and you can train him to behave but you have to start soon before he gets too much older.

Seems to me like there is a control issue. You need to take back charge. When he is aggressive, turn his attention to something else or completely ignore him. When he's good, be sure to reward him. Never give him treats when he is bad...this way he'll associate treats with being good. If you are the only one that is having problems...he knows he has you in control!

Look up Alpha Dogs on the internet. My dog suddenly started doing the same thing and it left me wondering what was wrong with him. Took him to the vet, got him neutered, and got trained on how to assert myself as the leader. Now he is 95% better. My pup is a shih-tzu and at one time had serious attitude problems.

He seems not to like u anymore, there most be something u did that made him not like u. It couldn't be that your too young and he thinks he can overpower u if he's nice to your brother. U should take him to the vet how might be able to figure out what happened that made him turn on u.
