It's not easy to break through plateaus and get rid of those last few pounds of body fat. Diet is really crucial here. I've had some clients who do everything perfectly and still have a hard time getting rid of "that extra pouch". It really does come down to diet in the end and ensuring that your calorie expenditure exceeds your intake.

- Ensure you are weight training at least 3 times per week with repetitions no lower than 12.
- Stay away from all processed foods
- No carbs after 4pm unless you have a high-intensity training session (in which case they should only be complex carbs and moderate)
- Last meal 4-5 hours before you retire and if you must eat after this, it should only be a liquid protein shake or similar.

If you don't get your body fat levels below 17-18%, it's often hard to get rid of the pouch. Have your body fat analyzed by a qualified fitness professional to assess your range. There are a few tools at the top of this page to help you.

Seems like you suffer from good genes. You body knows how to store any and all extra calories for you. What you need to do is go to a dietitian and see how many calories your body burns at rest. Once that is done you can really hit the stop. I am a 5 foot 11 male and I take in less then 1900 calories a day and burn 400-500 at the gym 4-5 times a week. It's hard but that is the price I am paying to get a six pack. Keep up the good work

I agree with FitGuy's assessment.

To get rid of belly flab, you are going to have to make your diet the centerpiece of your efforts. The old saying "Abs are made in the kitchen" is absolutely true, especially since you are getting close to seeing them.

I'd recommend watching your calories. Use http://www.fitday.com to monitor your amounts and make sure you wind up with a small deficit everyday. A small deficit, to me, is about 250 - 500 calories. Any more than that and you are going to be sacrificing muscle.

Continue to lift weights and be sure to drop the carbs a little bit. Especially refined carbs (those that contain white flour, sugar, or high glycemic carbs (http://www.glycemicindex.com). Also, increase your protein. Fat is okay, in moderation but don't be fat phobic -- too many calories equals body fat, not fat calories alone.

No exercise is going to remove blubber unless your diet is in order. However, that's no excuse not to continue exercising, since exercising is what is going to make those muscles pop as well as change the disposition of your body (more muscle over fat equals less of a body fat percentage).

Definitely do get your body fat measured. You can buy a $50 body fat measuring scale (I think Bed, Bath and Beyond sells them or most any department store). They are reasonable accurate. Sometimes health clubs offer a service as well. For a woman, you are going to want to get around 15 - 20% before your abs start to show.

There are also other things you can do to further get definition, particurarly dropping water weight and altering your sodium levels. These are pretty drastic, but if you wanted to look good for a day or two, you could look into them. That is what the professional models do before a shoot.

Good luck.

The only way to get rid of fat is aerobic exercise. Calories are energy. Stored energy is fat. You're not going to get rid of a flabby waistline doing crunches or situps, you'll just get stronger abs. So start running, bike riding, or other vigorous aerobic exercise for long durations to burn up that extra energy.

But a word of advice: Being skinny and toned might be sexy for magazines and such. But in reality a man only really wants a tip drill. That's a woman thick in the right ways.

Great job!

I run and run and run, and there just simply is still a layer of fat.
My body percentage is 9% and I still feel like I have a pouch.

The big stability balls that you see at the Gym...there are so many excellent core exercises that will get rid of that extra fluff very rapidly, and the ball is cheap to buy.

Check on the internet and find the crunches and exercised with the big ball and try it for 10 days, watch the difference!

Good luck!

well, if that's you in the picture, you look pretty lovely to me. But you're worried about your tummy so...have you tried pilates? or yoga?~ both focus on the core and strengthen All the ab muscles, more than crunches will do. If you like crunches tho' try doing them on a fit ball, slowwwwly. It will burn and do wonders! Also activities like biking, swimming, circus arts and dancing work, and are more fun than the gym. (Maybe be happy with what you have already, accepting tiny flaws and being imperfect is human and beautiful - and sitting down makes even a six pack look flabby-it's called skin! :)

Some people are simply not able to have the defined abs that others do. Too many people think that by eliminating body fat, they'll have the abs that they desire. Your body's make-up may no allow for you to have the abs you want.

But let's be honest, I don't know or how you work your abs, so this might not apply to you...

Homeopathic Treatment for Excessive Fat and Weight :-
PHYTOLACCA BERRY's Mother Tincture is perhaps the safest and sure fire way of loosing excessive fat around abdomen. With Phytolacca Berry once you loose the excessive fat and weight you don't get it back because you body takes care of itself after that and keeps you from gathering up excessive fat. It is prescribed after having a baby too, to get the tummy to loose its flab and to make it flatter and tighter. And after loosing weight with this you don't get flabby it tightens up the flab and skin along with helping your body to shed the excessive accumulation of fat around the girth
The dosage is 15 to 20 drops of the tincture in half a cup of hot water thrice a day half hour before or after meals.
Avoid Chocolates, Coffee, Mints, Red Meat and Carbonated and Alcoholic drinks while taking Homeopathic Medicines. You have to take it for at least 30 to 45 days after that you start to feel the results.
To the best of my knowledge its the safest and the most sure fire way of loosing fat and weight and keeping it of for keeps. Excellent remedy for Obese people who cant seem to shed weight despite trying.
Homeopathic Remedies can be found at all Major Herbal Stores or could be bought on line, In most of the world Homeopathic remedies are quite cheap and easy to find and they do not need a prescription.
Take care and God Bless !
