I can answer this question from experience. At one point in my life, I was homeless. At another point, I made over $100,000/yr. I wasn't homeless because I was lazy, I was homeless due to circumstances in my life that put me there, partly, and partly due to the fact that I just didn't care.
Now, why is it that illegal immigrants come here and make it? It's because they make sacrifices in order to survive. For alot of these people, it's just that, a matter of survival. If they stay in their country, they have no options and they, or their families, are faced with a life where good, decent people die every day due to starvation or violence. I have worked with illegal aliens for years now. I have taken the time to get to know quite a few of them and can tell you that, from my experience, their work ethic far surpasses that of their American counterparts.
I think you might take a look at your question again. Not all bums are poor. Not all poor people are bums. Not all homeless are poor or bums. One thing is certain. They are all people. Yes, even the illegal ones.

I am not sure what part of the country you live in but let me start by informing you that not all poor people are homeless and not all bums are poor. As some one else stated there are some "Bums", as you put it, that are displaced out onto the streets by mental institutions due to funding or lack of proper medical judgment. Others are homeless because an external influence has in some way used and/or manipulated their minds to function in a manner which is unresponsive to feelings, example war vets. As for your question, why persons that live and work in this country illegally make it just fine? Maybe it is because they work. They work the jobs and perform the tasks that most legal citizens of this country feel they are just too good for. They are not afraid to work out in the sun or clean up after Corporate America has gone home in order to "make it just fine", while unemployed legal citizens wait for that perfect title to come knocking on their door as they sit on their couches and complain about the illegals and they wonder why they are doing just fine.

You know there are alot of disabled veterans that fought for YOUR freedom out there on the streets you ingrate. Was that a job YOU were too lazy to do?
Also, the state of mental health care is such that many, though not all, homeless have a mental illness.
Furthermore, businesses seek to hire illegals seek them out and often bring them here.
Do you think a homeless person will have a social security card, a license, any form of ID? No, if they do, they are often mugged for it. People can sell them for money on the streets.
They have no address, no place to leave. The problem with being homeless is you need a job to have a home, but you need a home to have a job.
Also, I have met illegals who are homeless and beg on the streets. This is how they get money. Mexico has a 40% unemployment rate, I have seen their homeless on the streets. But, according to your logic, they are just "lazy" I guess

Alot of the homeless are that way for diffrent reasons. Some ran away from home from abusive parents, others have drug problems or drinking problems. others have mental problems. Some suffer from depression and others like to be independent to the extreme.
I use to volunteer at homeless shelters and most of the people became homeless because they are elderly, even senile and there kids abandoned them. Others are handicap and cant work or afford the treatments for there disability. Many have lost there jobs due to jobs being sent overseas and they bring there kids with them to shelters.
There are some homeless who just dont want to work but most I came across it was not that situation. Illegals gets jobs because if the illegal gets hurt on the job, the guy who hired him dousnt have to pay for his hospital visit which leads to tax and insurance fraud. He can avoid hiring people as independent contractors which again is tax fraud. and many of the illegals do not have permanent jobs but rather are seasonal or just a one day job which are jobs poor Americans and homeless use to take.
Where I live rent prices have increased because illegals keep piling into apartments.

Illegal immigrants come here to work and that's all they come here to do, nothing in their minds but work (although some come to drink beer and live off others and commit crime, I admit), while poor people simply don't work (not generalizing: some are actually victims, others are flat out lazy).
It doesn't mean that I endorse illegal immigration, I am against it. I just point out to the facts.
By the way: illegal immigrants don't have acces to wellfare benefits. They don't have a SSN, but instead, many actually get taxes deducted, dollars that the SSA can't credit to any account and guess what, get spent, on what? Ask Bush.

Bums and homeless are usually drug addicts, alcoholics, or mentally disturbed. Poor people can be the disabled or the addicted. Poor people can be just people down on their luck who work hard just to put the “or” on “po folk.” Poor people can be people who made bad choices and became broke. There are many reasons including and besides just plain laziness that end one up in poverty.
One thing is true: through hard work and a sound mind, some poor and poverty stricken Americans don’t stay that way; they find work.

This is a good point, on the same corner you have a homeless american Vietnam Veteran shaking a can and holding up a cardboard sign, then you have a 'fresh off the boat' immigrant most likely illegal, selling flowers, water bottles, juice, fruits, that right there goes to show that they dont just come here with open hands waiting for stuff to land on their laps.

A large percentage of the American People that I think you may be referring to are the Mentally ill homeless. My son was one of those whom you are referring to until I tracked him down and got him the help he needed. Many more are war vets who have exhausted their benefits. Toss in the drug abusers, the felons who cannot get jobs because of their criminal records and there you have it! The rest are most definitely LAZY. OH! Wait a minute, Illegals, hummmmm glad you used the word immigrants. Because as you can see, Americans really Zap the system. Oh, and they are able to despite the fact that they live their lives by illegal means.. They are, after all, American. Doesn't make you feel proud to be one yourself?

No. Just fell on hard times or have personal problems. I think my taxes should be used more often to help the homeless Americans, then lets say illegal immigrants. Homeless ppl don't break our laws, now let's see how many an illegal immigrant does....
