Ron Royal or Puerto Rican rum are pretty close to what you'd get in Havana. Just make sure you go for a select white rum.

for mojitos you need a good quality light rum, but I have used Appleton's rum and it came out great. That is my rum of choice and while it is not clear it is not a spiced rum, just oak aged so it worked really well. This is such a simple drink that you will taste the quality of your ingredients so use the good stuff. Ask you local beverage shop to recommend one for you.

Use a shot of white silver dry rum - Havana club Anjeo Blanco Silver Dry in case you favor some authentic authenticity, yet Bacardi Carta Blanca works properly; even if any white rum will do.

Any cuban rum should be good. If you live in the States, I guess you just have to go with a name brand and hope for the best.

I was actually making and drinking them last night.
I used bacardi select.
If you dont know how to make them, they came out really good last night.
1 1/4 oz sugar water, 4 mint leaves, 1 lime wedge, muddle.
then add 1 1/2 oz bacardi, mix it up real good, add your ice and top with seltzer
