And once I've done that, should I challenge them to a race back inside on the terms that the loser gets locked out since I know that I won't lose?

Just tell them, hey I don't mean to be rude but it's time for you to go I have things to do. About the challenge, it may not be such a good idea, even though you think you would win you could trip on something and fall and then you'd be locked out of your own house while the person you want to get rid of is in there eating all your food and watching TV and sleeping in your bed.

Yes.

The alternative is not to stock up the fridge, not clean the house, not do laundry, not cook, shut off the water supply, lock up all hi-fi and TVs . Don't supply soap, toothpaste, coffee, tea, sugar, milk etc etc. Remove the bedsheet and pillow cases and lock everything up.

Politely ask what their plans are and then let them know that you have enjoyed their visit, but it is time for them to go, it is your house. If all else fails, tell them that you have other company coming and need the space. If you are not talking about overnight guests, but dinner guest: you serve coffee, this is a hint that it is time to go.

sounds good, be sure you stretch! Or just start demanding a ridiculous amount of rent, either they wont agree and have to go somewhere else, or they'll be paying the rent plus time spent with interest.

Ha Ha. That is a very cute and polite way of asking someone to leave. My vote is perfectly acceptable.
