This is my kind of question.... I have this exact same problem and this is how I have learned to deal with it:
*You need at least 14 hours to your day for the average body to feel fatigued from a non stressful day. So I don't know if you have a job... but make sure you are not getting up after 9am.
*Make time for exercise.... run, weight lift.....etc.
*I have found that having a tv in my room at night relaxes me... go to bed 30 minutes to and hour earlier and watch tv. (find something relaxing, not a car chase or something to get your heart rate up)
*Reading a book before bed is also a really great relaxer.
*Don't just lay there becuase it can get you more worked up... causing you to stay up longer!
Try all of these things and if you still cant sleep, see a doctor and get sleeping aid pills. Realize that this should be your last resort because they can have some scary side effects.

Examine your diet and exercise routine. First, are you consuming caffeine five hours before bedtime? This also includes drinking sodas, or perhaps energy pills. Look at items in your diet that are caffeinated and eliminate them five hours before bedtime. Also, do you exercise in the evening? I know a lot of folks have to exercise after they get off of work. However, you have revved up your system in the evening. Switch to exercising in the morning if at all possible. One hour before bed, turn off all stimulating activities, such as the computer, t.v., and radio. Relax in a chair for a while if at all possible. Or, take a warm bath, followed by some "sleepytime" tea (does not contain caffeine), or warm milk. When you lay down, close your eyes, and repeat this sentence: State "I am" while inhaling, and "Relaxed" while exhaling. Do this for about five minutes. You should find that your mind clears. Next, start at the top of your body laying flat on back. Blink your eyes really hard. Open and close your mouth. Clench and release your fists, and do the same of your lower body muscles. Tense and relax all of your major muscle groups. Voila, you should sleep much better.

when u have enough work to do, if u want it or not at nights u will sleep comfortably and easily.
if u dont have so much work .its good to go jogging or walking for an hour at nights.
if u dont want to.then nobody forces u to whenever u go bed u have to sleep fast. try to read some magazine, book.watch tv.
sleeping problem is just mentaly.
maybe u think alot about anything ,or a special thing ,this makes u feel tensed or excited ,that doesnt let u sleep easu at nights.
u dont have a big problem , try to fix the problem ,if u couldnt solve it under 1 month ,talk with some theraphist, cause sleeping disorder is not a simple problem,u have to find out the problem.
dont worry this sometimes happen to me also, and the problem is just worrying about sth, sad about sth, or really excited,
find out wht is urs then.

There are 2 things you can do that help most people sleep better at night.
1) Exercise. This will expend your energy for the day and that will make your body want rest.
2) Don't eat anything for 4-5 hours before you go to sleep. This way your body won't be trying to digest while you're trying to get some shut-eye.

Hard exercise at some point in the day is very good. Caffeine filled foods, including chocolate, just before bed are a bad idea. Also, what you do before bed helps (read a book instead of watching TV as it uses one sense as opposed to two).

Caffiene, alcohol, and tobacco all negatively impact the quality of your sleep, no matter what time of day you use them. There are books and dvds out there for PM Yoga and yoga for relaxation, which works very well for some people.

Your body may be ready for sleep - but you need to learn to turn your mind off. Be disciplined: Tell yourself you cannot think about things now, you will think about them when you wake up.
Focusing your mind on something specific to stop your mind from getting away from you and "thinking"... try repeating a mantra, or go through every spot on your body telling it to sleep (i.e., "toes, go to sleep, toes." "foot, go to seep, foot." "ankle,...") you get the point. It's your mind that's keeping you awake. Gotta reign it in and calm it down.
