It sounds like your parakeet friend is "happy" and nothing to worry about at all. In fact, it is cute to see them do that!! :>
Might try getting him some toy's for him to play with. He might surprise you with them. Some toy's look like bar bells, and the like. Toy's for the sides of the cage, toys for the bottom as well, such as balls with bells in them. They love em.
Lucy
ps, I would not give a mirror though as they get "attached" to them, thinking there is another bird in there. Won't hurt though if your bird does have one.

I have seen on tv a documentary about parots and other types of intellegent birds. One cause of head bobbing is they are not getting enough attention/interaction. They are very smart animals and need constant stimulation to keep their mind occupied. The head bobbing can indicate the development of mental problems. Well, that's what the program said at least.

my parakeet does that all the time, and I suspect it is because I give him less attention than to the other parakeet. just interact with him more....nothing serious and nothing dangerous, just something normal....it's just a characteristic i suppose, like the way they preen themselves and i used to freak out if they got ticks!!!

He thinks he's a hard geezer because he's met no competition, get him a mirror that'll learn him.
Try him on Frank Zappa and some Hendrix too.
