well i see a lot of violence coming from people claiming they are doing Allah's work so i just dont know.

Yes, Islam teaches peace, patience, and virtue. It's unfortunate "Muslims" use the name of God to kill innocent people, but they are contradicting their own Quran. They are disobeying Allah. The Quran says to kill one person is as if you kill all of humanity and to save one person is as if you saved all of humanity.
here are some verses from the Quran that forbids anger and preaches patience:
125. Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.
126. And if ye do catch them out, catch them out no worse than they catch you out: But if ye show patience, that is indeed the best (course) for those who are patient.
127. And do thou be patient, for thy patience is but from Allah. nor grieve over them: and distress not thyself because of their plots.
128. For Allah is with those who restrain themselves, and those who do good.

The word, Islam, means peace through faith and surrender to Allah.
When there is great disparity betwen the haves & the have nots of the world, you will see the fundamentalists and extremists leading the charge in order to even things up.
I'm sure that muslims might have asked a question similar to yours about Christians, during the Inquisition and the Crusades.
Also, the Zealots took up the sword for the Jews, when Rome was ruling unjustly in Palestine.
Religion is often used as a front or scapegoat during times of conflict, when, generally speaking, the core problem deals with power, economics and land.

Islam literally means submitting your own will in full conciousness to the WILL of the MIGHTY CREATOR. THIS act in itself breeds peace. When you know that the GOOD LORD is the Master and KING of KINGS, how can you not be at peace? Especially when in your heart you know he is GOOD, Compassionate, Merciful, Kind, ALL-GIVING, Artist, JUST, Tolerant, Patient, MOST LOVING, MOST CARING, The Provider, the Sustainer, THE EVER LIVING, The Omniscient, THE OMNIPRESENT!
If you love the MIGHTY CREATOR, who made us all, how can you be violent to another? However, Islam does allow us to defend ourselves. Have you wondered, why are so many foreign armies are in Muslim lands.
How would YOU react if the armies of China and India invade and bomb your cities? People have the tendency to fight back.
Why is everyone invading Muslim lands these days? THINK and BE FAIR!!

Not according to the Koran. Read "Islam Revealed" by Dr. Annis Shorrosh, a Palestinian born in Nazareth c. 1940, brought up in Islam, turned to Jesus in the 1950's. He is a great debater with Islamic scholars.
edit-He also has a ministry devoted to helping Muslims convert to Christianity. He is successful, a gifted man of God (not Allah).

They are not doing work for Allah, Islam is about peace. Have you ever asked christians that are today bombing children in Iraq and then saying we are doing it for world peace...bullshit.
Maybe some Muslims are becoming violent, but thats you own fault, it doesnt take a genius to figure that out. Innocent muslim childrean are being torutured and killed everwhere, you havent seen the truth, only THEY have, thats why they become insane and explode themselves. But suicide and killing innocent civillains is wrong.

It matters so little what Islam is ... what seems to matter is that the people who are now Middle Eastern style Islamics have always been a people of war ... it has been going on since long before Islam entered the picture.

The religion itslef teaches peace, but as with all reigions there are some factions that think they must do Gods work and kill all non beleivers adn those taht would try to convert them. These are the ones you hear about on TV, while the rest are ignored

Depends. There are some Muslims who follow a mystical teaching called Sufism. Their teachers, like Hazrat Inayat Khan, are wise and beautiful souls who love Allah and the human soul. These are the peaceful minority.

But unfortunately, many Muslims are representing their religion in a wrong way, totally different from what it really is..
Here are some verses of Quran that prove what I said:
"Allah does not forbid you to treat kindly and act equitably towards those who have neither fought you in the matter of religion nor driven you out of your homes. Indeed Allah loves the just.' He only forbids you to take for friends those who fought you in the matter of religion, and drove you out of your homes, and cooperated with others in your expulsion. Those who take them for friends are indeed the wrongdoers."
