The biblical 'God' cared a lot more about adultery. "Thou shalt not be homosexual" wasn't important enough to be one of the 10 Commandments. Heterosexuality was a rule of conduct, like how to treat menstruating women, or which enemy was okay to kill and which wasn't. Paul tried to drag it into Christianity hundreds of years later, but then again he was a closet gay with major homophobia and misogynist issues.
Judaism tends to accept the homosexual lifestyle much, much more easily than Christians do, even though most of the "abomination" remarks are in the OT. The Hebrew word for "abomination", by the way, is considered by Jewish scholars to have been applied more in the ritual sphere of life than in the ethical.
I'm really weary of seeing that answer "We don't hate gays, we hate their sin". To want to chastise (limit the freedoms of) anyone who is openly gay -- to be an instrument of bigotry (whether church-oriented or not) -- to deny a loving couple the right to marry and be a family -- baby, that's HATE, and if you're like that, you need to start taking responsibility for that ugliness inside you. You can dress it up with kisses and prayers, but it's still ugly, disgusting and evil hate.

From a biological point of view, this is what I have learned, to simplify it: we all have a part in our brain called the hypothalamus. This part determines our sexual orientation. For example: Girls are born with a small hypothalamus, and Boys are born with a large hypothalamus. When a little boy is born with a small hypothalamus most likely he will have gay tendencies and vice versa for girls. It is up to the individuals choice of free will to act upon it. That is about all I can offer on that subject, because I am not gay, so I dont understand it from a personal standpoint. Perhaps individuals become gay from traumatic experiences? That is a possibility.
As for GOD? Unfortunately no one on this earth can answer such difficult questions until they have died and met GOD. We arent in a position to question GOD anything. I know it is unfair for innocent babies to die, and human beings to struggles with their sexual tendencies, but everyone struggles, and we are all damaged in some way or other. Show me someone who is perfect and I will tell you that Jesus has finally come. That is just my belief. And I am in no way trying to sway you to believe what I believe in. Perhaps it may offer you some insight.

Well, many people CHOOSE to use drugs and alcohol to excess, and when it messes up their lives, they are ridiculed and stigmatized. The reason they do it is because it's so much damn fun!!!!
That's why I'm gay - it feels good. Whether or not it's choice, chance, or genetics matters little to me. I don't remember making a CHOICE to be gay - but that doesn't mean that on a subconscious level, I didn't in FACT make a choice.
The end of your question betrays your REAL motive. You hate religion and religious people. Shut up for once. Go take up knitting or some damn thing, and stop forcing your views on everyone else. You're quite a d-oosh.

To say Christians automatically believe that being gay is a choice, is as much of a sweeping statement as actually assuming that all gays persons choose to be so. I'm a full on out there, on fire for God Christian, and whilst I uphold the teaching that homosexual practises are wrong, I certainly do not think that is some kind of GAY UNIVERSAL DECISION. With ref to your last point, should a baby die so young, the Bible teaches that it would enter heaven. So not quite so "heinous" after all. GBU

First of all, we don't. At least I don't.
My brand of Christianity -- Roman Catholicism -- is silent on the issue of whether or not gays are born that way, or choose to be that way. That's for the behavioral scientists to figure out.
The Church is not silent, though, on homosexual actions. Regardless of what causes the orientation, the Church teaches that homosexual acts are sinful.
You said that "gays are ridiculed by others, shunned by family, hated by politicians, and generally looked down upon by society."
I have to disagree. Today's popular culture is very gay-friendly, as are (it seems to me) most politicians.
Most Americans today are generally able to accept gays as people with equal rights -- even if we don't always accept certain items on their political and social agenda, such as the silly and utterly strange notion of two men (or two women) marrying each other.

You never get the whole story from religious dogma or from societal "pop wisdom". politicians, preachers, scientists, magazine editors, and other such people attept to explain the workings of biology and the intent of God and society. Similar questions: why does god make diseases? why ugly people? why differing races, world hunger, genocide, hate, sin, why even create a planet full of imperfect beings that do evil all day every day? why even make a sky full of stars which nobody looks at cause theyre too far away? why make such a huge universe thats mostly empty space? why make creatures and make hundreds of ways to kill each one? why is nature so brutal, where death is preceded by huge amounts of pain? I have no answer.

All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe. This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God's adversary, and led into rebellion a portion of the angels. He introduced the spirit of rebellion into this world when he led Adam and Eve into sin. This human sin resulted in the distortion of the image of God in humanity, the disordering of the created world, and its eventual devastation at the time of the worldwide flood. Observed by the whole creation, this world became the arena of the universal conflict, out of which the God of love will ultimately be vindicated. To assist His people in this controversy, Christ sends the Holy Spirit and the loyal angels to guide, protect, and sustain them in the way of salvation. (Rev. 12:4-9; Isa. 14:12-14; Eze. 28:12-18; Gen. 3; Rom. 1:19-32; 5:12-21; 8:19-22; Gen. 6-8; 2 Peter 3:6; 1 Cor. 4:9; Heb. 1:14.)

No, because there are males and females, and other together can they reproduce. that is nature, anything other than that is WRONG, because it is not natural. some gays choose to be gay, others have an issue where they were harrassed or something. so, evil spirits have engulfed them and they allow themselves to be taken over by it. they feed in to evil desires and want nothing but to bask in it. A CHOICE ...
it has nothing to do with that dying child learning a lesson ...expand your mind - we don't know what God's intentions were, but we do know that you can't compare that with being gay, and that gay is a sin.

I don't believe that gay people are choosing to be gay, nor do I believe that there is the so-called "gay gene" (take a look at twin studies). I think homosexuality is caused by an interaction of genetic predisposition, hormonal influences, and childhood experiences. And I'm a Christian.
People are born with the ability to choose their actions, and those who struggle with those desires are not to act on them, just like heterosexual people are called to not act on their desires outside of their marriage.

There is nothing that exist without God's knowledge or approval. Even the Bible indicated that He made Pharaoh for such as a time as this to show His mercy; when Moses dealt with him and the Israelites. When people look and ridicule gays; it itself is a sin. The Bible says if you are guilty of one sin, your guilty of them all. So in essence no one is righteous no not one of us. Just a little food for thought for both sides.
