Called HP tech support. They confirmed my laptop is fine. They said this happens sometimes when yahoo email/IM is installed. Love the service, but can't continue unless I can get this to function properly! HELP!

i have had that problem with yahoo and other services too,,,sometimes if you un-install then re-install it will make a difference.

The best thing you could do is file a bug report with Yahoo Messenger and make sure they know about it.
If tech support said they knew it happened, then there isn't much you can do if they didn't give you an alternative suggestion. Try MSN.

You might want to try using a third party program that will allow you to access the same IM network under the same name, but with a different program.
Off the top of my head, I'd suggest Trillian. It'll let you use ICQ, AIM, Yahoo messenger all from one program.
