I love the crock pot classics that they sell at the grocery store but I have never used my crock pot all day and actually left the house. I work for 6 hours out of the day and I don't want to burn my house down or ruin the meal. Is it ok? I know it is a dumb question but better safe than sorry.

Not a dumb question at all-nobody wants their house to burn down. I think if you have a good, name brand crock pot you don't have to worry. I've got a two year old Rival crock pot that I use all the time when I'm at work and have never had a problem with it. I couldn't live without it-I love that thing. So what I am saying is yes-it is perfectly safe.

As long as you are careful. First make sure the crock pot you have is "UL" approved. It should be somewhere on the heating part of the pot. The "UL" stands for Underwriters Laboratory and they check the safety of items.

Next be sure you visually check the crock pot for any damage, especially to the electric cord.

Then last make sure nothing is close enough to the crock pot so that the heat from the pot might cause a problem. (5-6 inches away should be fine.)

But 6 hours isn't even all day! Most people are out for a full 8+ and crock pots have been around for a very, very long time. Don't be such a worry-wart. :)

Yes. I am away about 8 hours a day and I leave my crock pot on.
Leave it on low setting and you will be fine

I don't know about crock pot classics, but I leave a roast or sourkraut and pork in there all day. But those cook for like 9 hrs. Give it a try on a day that you are home first...just incase

As a matter of fact, I have never, ever actualuly BEEN home while cooking with my crock pot.

I love the chicken and dumplings!

Yes it is perfectly safe. I do it all the time.
I can tell you that most of the banquet Crock Pot classics are not worth the money you spend on them. they really do not taste good, and by the time you are adding stuff to make it taste better - it would be cheaper to make your own.

I leave mine unattended all day.....its nice to come home to a cooked meal. They do not heat up to boiling point and providing the lid is good will not boil dry...........The only thing that will prevent you from having a nice cooked meal at the end of a day is if you have a long power outage.

I leave mine all the time. Almost everyday. It's fine. Just to be safe make sure there is nothing near the outside of it. But I have never had a problem leaving mine all day. I work 10am to 6pm. So, I'm sure yours would be fine....
