Let me fix this up for you>
How would it be if everyone in this world spoke the same language?
Now it would be great, we could all communicate without any trouble. But keep the accents love those.
There is a translation machine that instantly translates from any language to any language. Not expensive and walla you can speak that language.

Hey Lawman, nice question... Umm... how would the world be different, eh? As much as I am tempted to reason about how it is not possible and how it would eventually lead to evolution of different dialects of the same language i.e. modern english and finally to development of newer languages; I would remain within the confines of imagination that you have provided- Firstly, we would be having a word for every single thing. As there would be a lot of people studying the same language, the pursuit for excellence would be taken to a higher level. The grammar and vocabulary would become very complicated because when man doesn't have much to do, he starts to complicate things. The fields that would benefit the most would be science and technology; there would be no need to bridge gaps between two bodies of knowledge. The knowledge would be added to the previously existing database in a systematic and organized manner. So, while the language will get tricky and complicated, science will become simpler. In general, people will be less reluctant to start conversations. The major fear before you utter the first word to a stranger is of the reply- "Sorry? I didn't get you." (Which can be in any language including English). So, you'll hear a lot of blah-blah around yourself. The world will be a noisier place. Music- one would expect, would remain untouched, but I don't think so. Most pop song lyrics these days consist of a very small database of words. Overuse of cliched expressions in music may either lead to evolution of innovative styles or a collective disinterest in music. Literature is largely based on the regional myth and culture; there are certain expressions that are lost in translation. Since, there will be the same language across the globe from the very beginning, I assume, there would be a unified mythology which would lead to a limited line of thought; ultimately leading to very dogmatic ideas of evil and good. Tolerance would decrease. People would be short tempered. The F-word would become less shocking. Basically, diversity would be lost, and power of the language would be misused.

I'm not entirely sure I understand your use of the English language, but I'll take a stab.
If you're asking "what would this world be like if we all spoke the same language?" it would be stark.
Here's one story that puts things in perspective. My brother works with brain-injured patients. One patient he had was an Asian national, but who was also fluent in at least two other languages. After this patient had a stroke, he lost the ability to speak in his own language (Japanese) but was still able to speak in English and French. Had this person only had one language, he would have been unable to communicate. What this also illustrates is that humans store language in different parts of the brain, depending on when the language was learned. In addition, there are words in all languages that cannot be translated directly to others, which lends one to see that there are certain concepts that are distinctly language specific. We may be able to say that "joie de vivre" can be translated as a "joy of life" in English, but to the French, the meaning is much more profound, and if one knows French, one can begin to understand how profound. Other languages add a diversity to human understanding that one cannot gain in any other way.
I think discourse would be very dull if there was only one language.

HORRIBLE!!!! Languages are one of the few things left in this world that keep a culture. Things from different cultures have been passed around from country to country but languages are still there. Languages should be different in different countries because that's what keeps the countries' different.

Spooky or boring, I'm not sure which. It's bad enough that everyone drinks the same carbonated beverage. Where would we be without the poetry, songs and rhythms of all the world's languages? There are too many rootless people around as it is.

I don't think we need to speak the same language but if we all could understand each others languages it could usher in a new age of enlightenment

There would be peace in the world and goodwill towards men... who am I kidding?
If everyone spoke the same language, I would never have a reason to study ither languages. And then I would be quite depressed.

I'd love it!
the only sad thing is that a language carries a culture.
Imagine if everyone was like the english...the rest of beautiful Europe and the Earth's other cultures would be lost!
where would I go on vacation to get away from England!?

It would be very boring. Everyone would lose their identity, the thing that makes them different from people like them all over the world. There would be no point in having different countries. There would be no point in travelling because everywhere would be the same. What would be the point?
