Well, the bible does have a historical order, but the books in the bible are aranged out of the order. You can get a chronological bible that puts the books in historical order though.

Also, books were not taken away, some books were chosen by the counsel that cannonized the bible because they were in agreement with what Christ and the apostles taught, and they were doctrinally sound and used regularly for teaching purposes.

Other books such as the Apocripha, and the so called deleted gospels mentioned in the Davinci Code were Gnostic in Origin and were not Christian. The Gnostics called them "gospels" to help sell them. They were not consistent with what the Apostles or Jesus Christ himself taught. The Gnostic gospels also were written a century or 2 after Christ ascended in to Heaven.

Mohamed used the Gnostic, incorrect, gospels to write the Koran.

The reason John the apostle goes back to the begining, John 1:1 is because he also has a begining to tell us about like Genesis 1:1. His begining was Jesus Christ. What John is telling us in his Gospel is that Christ is the begining of all things. He is not taking validity away from Genesis at all.

Actually the first few books in the Bible (Genesis, Exodus, etc) were believed to have been written sometime between 1440-1400 BC. John was written after the birth of Christ, believed some time between AD 85-90. The Gospel of John is recommended to new believers as a first book to read because it is the easiest of the books to read and understand.

Yes, I knew that the books of the Bible were not written in order.

I assume you mean that John was the first book of the New Testament, not of the Bible.

Actually, though, the Gospel of John is probably the oldest of the four gospels.

The Gospel of Mark, the Gospel of Matthew, or St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians, was the first part of the NT to be written. Scholars are not sure which one.

Uh... okay - lol

So you're saying that John 1:1 took place before Genesis (where the world was created)?

Maybe you'd better check your references again...

(And of course the bible wasn't written in ORDER. It was written by a bunch of different people... and then transcribed by a lot more... no one ever said the whole thing was exactly in order. By the time you get to the New Testament, you've got different people's accounts of the same event....)

Yes, Spamandham, you are so clever. The old testament WAS recorded first... Do you think perhaps he was refering to the New Testament, though? BTW, I didn't know that. Thanks. Not that it will be much good in a debate but interesting little tidbit all the same ;) And Johnny Zondo, all the books were written after Jesus' reported existance. Like 40 years later.

Uh no. The first book is Genesis, which also records the oldest myths in the Bible, and probably was actually penned first.

I know that the creation story was written after other books of the OT, which, by the way, is also a part of the bible.

yep, knew that! A bunch of people got together and they decided what books to include and in what order, there are actually more books, I believe that the Vatican has them under lock and key! How controversial or trivial can they be?
