Volunteer at a hospital or a nursing home. The children's cancer ward or burn victim's ward will humble you pretty fast.
Volunteer at a homeless shelter. You will feel nothing but humility and gratitude for your blessings.
You will get much more from the experience than you could ever hope to give.

Ahah! I have a 12-step program for you. According to the Rule of St. Benedict.
1. A man keeps the fear of God always before his eyes and never forgets it.
2. A man loves not his own will nor takes pleasure in the satisfaction of his desires; rather he shall imitate his actions by that saying of the Lord: I have come not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
3. A man submits to his superior in all obedience for the love of God, imitating the Lord.
4. In obedience under difficult, unfavorable or even unjust conditions, his heart quietly embraces suffering and endures it without weakening or seeking escape.
5. A man does not conceal any sinful thoughts entering into his heart or any wrongs done in secret, but rather confesses them humbly.
6. A man is content with the lowest and most menial treatment, and regards himself as a poor and worthless workman in whatever task he is given.
7. A man not only admits with his tongue, but is also convinced in his heart that he is inferior to all and of less value.
8. A man does only what is endorsed by the common rule of the monastery and the example of his superiors.
9. A man controls his tongue and remains silent, not speaking unless asked a question.
10. A man is not given to ready laughter.
11. A man speaks gently and without laughter, seriously and with becoming modesty, briefly and reasonably, but without raising his voice.
12. A man always manifests humility in his bearing no less than in his heart, so that it is evident at the Work of God, in the oratory, the monastery or the garden, on a journey or in the field, or anywhere else.

Only when you understand one point and one point only will true humility be possible. That point is knowing that you have no possible way to return into the presence of Jesus Christ only but through Him. No matter how much charity, love, good, etc you give to those in need it won't make up for either one of our sins. But not all is lost. God the father and both Christ set forth a plan for our redemption. And that is through finding the only one true faith and being baptized into it and enduring to the end of our lives in the service of our God. Then shall we gain all that the Lord has prepared for you and me.

All one really needs to do is to fully consider the extent of one's boundedness: the areas of BOUNDEDNESS are rationality, media, methodology, & purveyance. Of course, it can also help to understand that all of what spurs you into action - CAUSALITY, has a 1:1 correspondance with your boundedness, i.e., the formal (conceptual), the material, the "efficient," & the motivational, respectively. If that doesn't "deflate the ego" to proper size then we might want to consider the human propensity to bungle the remediations of his/her 'difficulties' by not choosing to use the proper tools, or muddle the otherwise simple ,or, conversely, to overly simplify those problems which are truly complex!
Moreover, one can choose to recognize the fact of our relative lack of attained skill sets when it comes toTRANSCENDING those difficulties... If, upon realization of that, one's sense of self STILL suffers from a kind of narcissistic immersion, then one might conduct a gatherance of just HOW SMALL an individual's ability to intialize, enact, or exact significant change in this world truly IS. After that, if the problem still exists, then I would say the person in question may well be incurable, will always be deluded, and prone to inflated behaviors.

Humility and humbleness are similar. Both are placing your life in the hands of another, just as God placed his son, Jesus into the hands of another. Jesus came to save us from sin. His humility came when he allowed himself to die on the cross. Now, that is admirable of him. We humans are placed here to give of ourselves and to try to be like Jesus. Always turning the cheek and never striking against another. Aways giving to those in need and praying and waiting for God to lead you in the direction he has chosen for you. Can you be like Jesus? That is true humility.

Do you have a concordance? Check on the word "humility" in it and look at the bible references. Nothing better that going straight to the source, God's word...on this matter! One of my favorite verses is this one, Philippians, chapter 2, verses 3-4:
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others".
Going on to Philippians 2:8 "(Jesus)....who, being in His very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped; but He made Himself nothing,.....He humbled Himself, and become obedient unto death, even death on a cross".
Great question!

You can try to humble, or you can simply be perfect like me, in which case no humility is required.

Giving all your thoughts and efforts to others before yourself and expecting nothing in return.
I think it is a rare thing to achieve and a hard thing to hold on to.
As for becoming humble, you can start with one small nicety to some other person once a day, again wanting nothing in return - except maybe the spiritual satisfaction that such action usually brings.

True humility is not to think too hightly of oneself, to bring low or prostrate. What a different world this place would be if we all practised humility.
