First off, I would love to CONGRATULATE you because quitting smoking is an awesome acomplishment! You don't even know how great it is. All that aside, i know it is exremely tough! But hang in there.
I believe it is normal to be having depression or anxiety after quitting smoking. Luckily for you there are things you can do to fix it. I would go see a doctor just to get some perscriptions for depression medicine. It can really help you get through what you are feeling. It can last a long time, which is why you should get medicine. I personally think you can get through this...... if you are strong enough you won't have this problem forever.
Things to do in the mean time:
Find a hobby that really keeps you busy..... it has to be something you love or else it won't take your mind off of anything.
Also..... taking up a great exercise program is an awesome idea. For one, it will help you improve the damage you have already done to your body by smoking. And it will also get you to meet new people wich can also ease some of that anxiety.
Pick something and stick to it! I know you can do anything if you can quit smoking! Keep up the good work! =)

Yes, depression is often experienced by people who quit smoking. There is often a stigma when one quits that says they will gain weight and be depressed. When you quit, your body goes though with-drawls and has other issues. It is important that you try to focus some of your energy to have some benefit to stopping smoking. Maybe you will save the money for a new outfit, or a trip to the theater or symphony. Try to make this have some good outcome for quiting. One thing many people do is have their diet change and that can lead to unbalanced food requirements. Your continued feelings of this depression could be an imbalance in your nutrition. Try to make sure to do some kind of exercise most days of the week to make a healthy contribution to the lifestyle change you have set out on.
Remember that your doctor is someone who can evaluate and offer some ideas for treating you if you have depression and that could be what you need to get through this.
Congratulations on quitting. Good Luck.

Yes, depression is a common side effect of any form of withdrawal. Since you were an intense smoker, the depression might be slighty worse then it would in other cases.

Congratulations.
One of the side effects of quitting smoking is similar to clinical depression. That's why Wellbutrin is prescribed.
I never got depressed. I became a royal *****.

Absolutely!! Try walking twice a day. That should help tremendously. If it does not, you might need anti-depressants. See your doctor. You and your body will be glad you quit. It keeps on killing my family off.
