Always start with 911.

It is always important to follow-up further than 911, since nothing will happen unless the officer actually catches the driver.

Please report a claim to these other resources:

If you can get the USDOT # from the side of the truck, that is the next best piece of information. Then get the truck number (like if it is a fleet #, not just the trailer, since this may be difficult to link to the driver), then contact any state or federal Motor Carrier Division with any State Department of Transportation.

Reading the license plate of the truck (not trailer) can be difficult, especially if they do not have a front license plate.

If you can get the state in which they are registered, then contact that State DOT and Trucking Association.

You can also look-up the owner of a USDOT# at this website:
http://www.safersys.org/CompanySnapshot.aspx

Also, let the state trucking association know what happened. You can find a directory at:

There are a lot of people, agencies, and companies that are passionate about truck safety...let them help you by helping them.

How ironic is that! I see at least once a day and usually more, people "lining one out" on a CD case or "rolling one up" in their lap. You might be surprised at the things you can see. As a truck driver I can tell you who to call. Call the state police. The most important info you need is the name on the door and the truck number (on the side of the hood). Your question left a lot of questions....

Call whatever police department you are in if the truck is there at the time. Or get the D.O.T. number from the side of the truck and call the federal department of transportation. Also get a license plate number from the truck (not the trailer). But, you had better be sure.

Call 911 but be prepared to give your life history. I did that once and had to give out a ton of information about me and they wanted to know if I would be willing to press charges against the trucker!

It depends on where you are. In the States I would think you would call the TSA (Transportation Safety Authority) or the local Department of Transportation. In Canada you would call the Ministry of Transportation.
