She's 7 months old and has a good-sized yard. She also has access to the porch. I feed her on the porch and yet, she still prefers to pee and crap on the porch. She hasn't ALWAYS done this, but started after a day's worth of rain, when I guess she didn't want to get her feet wet. But now she KEEPS using the porch, and sleeps in the yard!! WHAT can I do?? I even put NEW rugs on the porch, and she craps on them!

This porch is also where my older dog likes to stay most of the time. I can't do anything that will make him uncomfortable up there. And I NEVER actually SEE her do it, so I can't yell at her or 'spank' her for it, if I'm not there when it happens. (I know it's her though, because the older dog leaves much bigger piles)

Okay - thanks people - you're making me giggle. This dog lives outside. I'm not with her all day or anything. If I put newspaper out there, she'd shred it. Lol.

Show the dog the right location to go and give the dog treats when he goes in the right location. When the dog goes in the wrong location tell them "NO!" and show them the location where they did bad.
Its all Training

Try making the porch off limits for a while. Then she will get used to crapping outside again. Or you could start crapping outside until she gets the hint! Admit it... You've always wanted to anyways and now you have a good excuse. If a nieghbor asks what the h*ll you are doing... Just tell them you are using humane dog training techniques!

Try feeding her in the yard and directing her away from the porch altogether. When you let her out, walk into the yard, then let her go. Either that or squirt her with a spray bottle of water when she pees or poops on the porch. I know most people do that for cats, but it is the most harmless corrective action out there.

You may have to start from scratch using newspaper. If the porch is where she is usually hanging out, then place newspaper down (make sure it is weighted down with something). She will associate going to the bathroom on the paper. Slowly gravitate toward the yard (or where you want her to do her business). When she is consistently going on the paper, then remove the paper. This works, but one must be diligent.

first of alltake the poop off the porch and tell it bad dog. Then spray natures miracle (from pet store) on the deck. DO NOT spray bitter apple, that stuff is 4 chewing probs.. And if none of that works go out with it and makes sure it goes to the bathroom. (take it to it's potty spot(were u want it to mgo 2 the potty) and as it is going say "go potty" repetivly. soon u can just say that and it will go potty on command.

lol man that is funny. Try using a training spray or put her food out in the yard and limit her access to the porch. Thanks again for the laugh

My dog used to do that, I sprayed the porch with ammonia, he hated the smell and has not gone there since.

Spray some "Bitter Apple" around the area - (found at any pet supply store) - it deters most dogs - praise her and reward her when she goes in the yard

Remove the porch.
Seriously? If it were me? I would designate a potty area and crate train her.
CRATE: Doggie goes in crate.. (small enough to turn around in but not big enough to roam in.. they won't (usually) crap in an area they have to walk in.) - (hmm seven months old.. every four hours unless just ate) doggie comes out, mommy or daddy takes her on leash to crap area.. When doggie goes potty, tap on bootie real light, say "potty" and a pause and "yes" and then reinforce with hug and at on back, etc.
Then doggie gets to play for 20 minutes.
Take doggie out in 2 to 4 hours.. on leash.. to doggie doodoo area. If goes, "potty, yes" hugs and kisses, gets to play. yada yada yada.
If doggie does not go., doggie does not get to play or get kisses. Doggie goes in crate, give doggie little treat (so she knows crate is ok) Repeat in one to two hours.
Takes time, but works very effectively! Pretty soon doggie will go potty on command when you say "potty"
POTTY AREA MATERIALS: Also make doggie pottie area a specific material different than other areas in yard, either outdoor grass, or sand, or gravel or bark - something different from other areas in yard.
DON'T SCOLD: Whatever you do.. even though probably already done it.. stop doing it.. don't yell at dog if craps on porch. if catch in act, scream "aaahh" or whatever to startle dog.. move to correct area and praise her for being good for going in correct area.
CLEAN UP: Move dog to area she can't see you at. Come back, Mix vinegar in water 20 to 1 or whatever.. can't remember or buy natures whatever white bottle red letters at pet store.. it neutralizes odors on porch. water alone won't do it. clean up mess, spray with neutralizer, put dog back in crate and give cookie.
May take a while.. but she'll catch on. She's also in the defiant stages of life.. rebelious months.. testing you out.
ROUTINE: Stick to the routine and you got it made.
OTHER OPTION: If you can't crate train or others advice don't work., build a fence around porch and make it an off limits area for the dog. Or build a doggie run area fenced in.
