ok, my brother has lately been shrieking and making noises when he is happy. Could this be a sickness? do not state autism, for god sakes.

my brother may be autistic for one, so you don't have to say that, i am not saying it is bad. My brother is 8 years old, and he is not shrieking for joy it is more like... umm he is just bored and he goes "UHH" not screaming, yelling like he doesn't know what to say. Me and my dad asked about this to him and he said "There is something in my throat that is making me scream."
??? confused, i am ???

I like what Mr. Cricket said, and what the other lady the mother of two children autistic said, "There is nothing to fear from autism." My sister is autistic, and I am very sure I am with Asperger's or Asberger's, which is related to autism.
Read and learn as much as you can. Your brother will be all right and so will you all; do not fear. Fear is a knife which often turns against one's self. Face the fear, and hold the handle of the knife (fear); make it work for you not against you.
Breathe, breathe slowly and relax. Think clearly. I'm listening now to the film "The Matrix." You know the part where the Oracle quotes "Know thyself!" That is key. You learn more about yourself while you learn about your brother. You both will be stronger and enrich and help your family. Seems you have good parents. I hold you in the Light.

You might have your parents have him tested for aspergers syndrome. It is like autism but has different challenges. It sounds similar to what you are describing. I have a niece with learning disabilities so I understand how hard and frustrating it is to get a diagnosis. Blessings sent your way!

Why don't you teach him a more appropriate way of expressing himself. Whenever he makes the inappropriate sound, have him immediately make the desired sound. Use one to replace the other. Pick a good one, because you might have to model it for him. Later expand to more options.

One must bear in mind; when something is short changed in the make up of a child... there is usually an offsetting factor that can be seen and appreciated. Many times this factor is a gift that is beyond our accepted normal function. It must be nurtured a bit.

He's happy! I love hearing a child "shriek" with happiness!
Unless he's in his 20s or older....

He sounds as though he has some kind of mental disorder-this isn't normal behaviour.
