Like humans, dogs are afraid of what they don't know. Your dog will be afraid until he-she gets used to you trimming its nails. It just takes a little time and patience. Please remember not to trim too close to the skin, dogs have very small capillaries in the bed of their nail and if you trim too close they will bleed and hurt the dog.

Definately dont do it yourself. Dogs have very sensitive nerves in their nails called quicks they grow slower then the actual nail but they are still there and if you cut it it is extremely painful for the dog. Take them to a groomer or a vet. If you get their nails trimmed by a vet a few times the quicks will start to go back down and you might be able to do it yoursef

You can spend months trying to acclimate him to the clippers by handling his feet every day and teaching him to lie down and stay. You can take him to a vet or a groomer.
Or you can do this - run his sturdy leash through a chain link fence (around the post) and pull him
up snug against it. You pretty much have to use a choke collar - not to choke him, but to keep him from backing out of the collar. Then, just keep clear of his teeth and trim away. Try to make it as pleasant as possible for him - give him treats, don't cut into the quick, praise him when he's not trying to bite you. We did this with the guard dogs that sometimes stayed at our kennel and no one ever go bit. I prefer not to tranquilize a dog unless absolutely necessary.

I live in Fort Worth and our Pet Smart charges 8 bucks and some change. Well worth it!! All I have to do is reach of the drawer Roscoe's nail clippers are in and he starts wailing like I chopped his foot off. I have been doing his nails since he was a puppy to get him use to it...I have to say that didn't work. The vet also offers nail trimming but it is more expensive and more inconvenient for me.

I had the same problem - I quickly resolved it by giving him a treat before starting and then a small bit of a treat for each nail clipped, mine now sits, lifts his paw, and allows me to cut all his nails with one treat when I am through.
Another good method is to fill a bone with peanut butter and by the time he's through licking it all out, his nails are done :)

Rub the clippers without clipping on the feet a few times a day for a couple of weeks and then attempt again.

ahhh the vet helped me with this one. Most dogs do not like there paws touched. so while he is calm gently caress and hold his feet and get him used to you touching them. After a while, it will not bother him to let u cut his nails.

i have this same problem.
we tried taking him to the vet but they couldnt cut it either. they told us the only way to cut his nails is to give him a shot to make him unconscious for a while. i dont think thats a good idea so we just leave it nature by taking him on walks.

Walk him every night. His nails will wear down and you both get something you need. EXERCISE
