I live in Texas, and we barely survive. Many people move for work, and if there is enough hours to make a descent check, at minimum wage, I'll move my family. Especially if my children of working ages kind find jobs as well.

my entire family are labor oriented, and have barely a high school education. Not a one of them could, or want to work behind a desk all day. Nor, can the afford the education that would put them thier. If you don't have your complete education before you get out into the work force, and on your own, there is liitle time for catch up. If you don't come from wealth in America there is little chance of college being a real oportunity.

You can't get a much lower cost of living than Texas but I don't see how any family can survive on minimum wage. You aren't supposed to. Minimum wage is just for students and part timers to make a little extra money.
You need to get some job skills. Try becoming a nurse's aide. It only takes a few weeks and there are nursing homes so desperate for them they will pay for your whole program. Ask your local vocational school or community college about what programs they have. If you want to move, move to a place that has a school with a program that is going to give you the skills you need. A CNA (certified nurse's aide makes around $12-18/hr and it's guarenteed work anywhere you go.
While you are looking into that consider being a waitress at Denny's at night. I cleared like $20/hr in tips that way in college. That was enough to live on and my scholarships and GI Bill covered tuition. It is rough when your poor but it can be done. You just have to pull out all the stops. You can also go to hotels and apply to be a housekeeper. If all else fails, consider the military. It's a sacrifice, but they will take care of your family and the army will take almost anyone, you don't even have to be a citizen.

According to another question here, south Florida really needs orange pickers.

Another thing you can do is do what the illegals do. Go arond to homes and offer your services as a mower, a housekeeper, work in a meat packing plant. The wage here in my part of Texas is about 6.50 an hour, most places actually pay more than that. If you live further away from the border, you will make more. And they are always looking, even if they don't advertise. Put in application in anyway. Southern California is good for harvesting jobs too(look at all the illegals that work there), but I have only visited there. Also type in Agricultural jobs in your search engine, you will get a wealth of information on jobs.

Go to Southern Texas. The Rio Grand Valley to be exact. Right along the Mexican border. There's lots of fruit to pick there.
Are you sure you and your children can survive the long hours under the heat working along side Mexicans??

What are your skills... can you type, do carpentry, pick strawberries and lettuce... if so there are all types of jobs out there... depends on what you know and what you have to offer... if you only know how to flip burgers and fill shopping carts then you would be better staying put... if you know how to paint or build or dig ditches... go to MO or MS as they can use the help there... alot of degenerates from my area (the NE) went down there to make some quick extra cash... You can e-mail me if you like via this and fill me in more on what skills you have and what you are willing to do... then I can see what there is or better help you outl...

Southern California is the place. But you have to find a place to live at the same time, the living cost is sort of high in some areas.
