The starter and battery and fuel pump are good, but it won't idle for very long?

Mass Air Flow Sensor... my first guess. It's a common problem on these cars, specially if you've already confirmed spark and fuel. This part should cost between $100-$150, so I'd recommend having a certified emissions or smog check mechanic run a computer diagnostics test first.

Keep in mind there are many emission control sensors/devices on this particular vehicle. Any number of these components may be at fault also. However from what you've described (as far as the engine running - but for short time), the MAF sensor would be the first component I would suspect.

My background... 10 years of automotive repair experience, the last five as a California certified smog check repair technician.

Try disconnecting the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor connector that's located on your air intake duct leading from your air filter to your engine's intake manifold where the throttle plate is. The MAF can be cleaned. See the link below:

The IAC valve is sticking, its under the top cover tap it with a hammer and it should idle like it should, if it does thenn replace it.

yeah replace the idle air control valve or have i service by qualified ford tech,good luck
