yes take it for a test drive then ask if they will let a machanic safety check it ,,then if it needs brakes or anything immediate like the front end parts or a alternator the machanic will tell you ,,and then you ask for that off the price ,,also get the value of the vehicle from the Kelly blue book on line,,, then replace all the stuff that breaks down on the road ,,the themostat, the battery the tires the hoses the alternator the belts and the oil and the filters for the car ,,have all the fluids checked,, the replace the wipers ,,so now the old clunkers not going out, on the highway ,, and Get a towing service membership like AAA now the clunkers olde parts should be in the gharage for emergancy replacements ,,

Absolutely! I have bought maybe 3 of them in the last 15 years. Paid $500 - $1,500 for them, and run them until they start to cost a lot of money. Then get another one. Much better than paying thousands of dollars for a car and four years later you need a new one and are still paying on the old one. My friend is still driving a Dodge truck she paid $800.00 for ten years ago! Just get someone who knows a little about cars to go with you and check it out, to make sure there are no major problems and the motor sounds good.

It depends on the make and model and the history of that car. A Honda free from any accidents, or a Nissan or VW is good. Better yet a Volvo not modified will last you for another 10 yrs !
