I am going to a Catholic Rosary today (some sort of funerary rite), what should I expect? Do I need to know the prayers? What would fall under the category of proper attire? Should I have a rosary?

Bringing your own rosary is a good idea. But all you really need to know is the "Our Father", the "Hail Mary" and the "Glory Be". You should be able to participate fully if you know these three prayers. And dress is most likely less formal than what you woul dwear to the funeral (though not a lot less formal).

I am a good Irish Catholic girl of 52. I fully understand your situation today and I am sorry to hear of your loss.
Traditionally, Catholics sometimes opt to say the Rosary at a viewing. As a visitor, you are not expected to know the "Hail Mary's", but you would recognize the "Lords Prayer" which is recited 9 times. The entire Rosary will take about 45 minutes.
You must check with Miss Manners in the "what to wear" category. But I suggest, that seeing how you are already walking into an uncomfortable situation, you should be dressed to please yourself, avoiding black or loud colors. God Bless you and your family and friends. And then Father will say "And let the peace of the Lord be with you always" and you answer,
"And Also With You."

A Catholic funeral is broken into three parts.

The Vigil. The night before the Requiem Mass, a prayer service is celebrated. Eulogies are said at this time. A recitation of the Rosary may be prayed. The Irish culture call this a wake. A reception with food may follow.

The Requiem Mass. A full Mass with Scripture read and explained and Eucharist (Holy Communion) received with extra funeral prayers.

The Burial. A short final prayer service at graveside. A reception at someone's home with food may follow.

You do not need to know the prayers or have a rosary.

Wear clothes suitable to a funeral or business meeting.

With love in Christ.

Yay for you! No, you don't need a Rosary, although if you have one it's helpful to keep track.
As for clothes, just nothing too ratty, it's not a service but it is church.
You don't need to know the prayers, unless you want to say the prayers along with everyone else. Do you know the Lord's Prayer? That's one of the prayers included in there.
God bless!

You don't need a rosary. Where business casual clothees. The rosary lasts about 15 minutes and it consists of 5 decades (10 Hail Mary's). The "Hail Mary" is NOT praying to Mary (as many believe). It is a request that she pray for us.

helps to have a rosary, if you plan on saying it, It's easier to keep count. The prayers are the 'our father' and the 'hail mary'. If you know those, you're good. If you don't know them, you will by the end of the day :)

Take a good slug of some stimulant drink also...you gonna do a lot of yawning..Hey no offence meant but if it were me i'd give the whole scene a miss.
