It is not a case of no manners, but a case of different manners than what you expected. When you become a citizen of the world you have to expect that different cultures will seem odd to you. In Asia trains are usually packed to capacity. Only the aggressive survive. What you perceive as rudeness is perceived by them to be survival traits. Once when I was very young I was travel ling by train in Japan. As night fall came, the older gentleman across from me stood up and stripped off all his clothes. He than pulled his bunk down from overhead and climbed up leaving me kind of shocked since his package was but inches from my face when he passed. It just that we all have quirks that are related to where and how we were raised.

I thought ko nee chee wah meant "good evening" in Japanese. To my mind, poor manners are not a function of race, creed or ethnicity, but rather a failure in upbringing by the parents of the rude.

Some actions in differing cultures may not be seen as unmannerly, in that culture, and vice versa. As an example, in some cultures, a belch at the end of a meal while still at the table is a complement to the cook / chef.

On the other hand, some people are just plain jerks. You may find that if you conspicuously pick your nose it will be an effective counter measure.........this works best for someone staring at you.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe when growing up in the United States during the 60s and 70s and 80s they probably experienced a hell of a lot of racism from people ? Did you ever stop to think that they probably were discriminated and treated with decades of oppression? did you ever think that the reason why they act rude is because they were tired of being treated badly and they have to act like that for protection? you don't know if they had been robbed or spit on by people, so you don't know what they have been through. Maybe they don't want to be mistreated or hurt by people so they have to put up a front to act cold because they were treated like that for decades.
