Go with Hitachi. This year, they offer 3-ranges of plasmas models from the entry level {Ultravision HDS69 Series.} , mid-range {Ultravision Cineform HDT79 Series.} to the top of the line {Ultravision Director's Series HDX99 Series.} all of them offer 3-HDMI inputs, more than any other brand or model. and a picture quality that's breathtaking. For the TV DVD combination go with Toshiba, they offer several "LCDVD" as their are known., sizes range from 20" up to 37" all LCDs.
This year Consumer Report gave Panasonic a fair to good rating compare to last year's "Best Rating". This year's Panasonic line-up are not as good as previous models. Other good to very good models include the Samsung HP-S4253 and HP-S5053 plasmas. They don't have as many inputs as the Hitachi models but the picture quality and design are both very good. Another good one although is not a flat panel is the Hewlett-Packard Pavilion MD6580N a 65" rear projection DLP HDTV, as been rated as THE best DLP ever offered.
Check these links to find more about the sets i mentioned. Please note, some of them have not yet been released, and might not be shown on theirs respective manufacturer's websites.

depends on the size you are looking for, panasonic for the best multifunctional units with magnavox coming in second but the best all around hd ready tvs are from samsung this year with the dlp upgrade over last year if it is tube tvs then i would have to say sony for the best all around digital tv. check out circuit city they will beat the price of competitors for same items listed just like walmart they promise the lowest price. better selection of good tvs, better warranty plan with cc advantage

Sony, Panasonic, or Samsung...You'll get the best bang for your buck..1080p HD will likely be out of your price range, but you should be able to find 720p/1080i integrated HD for reasonable price.

sony is the best and you do not just pay for the name. Their picture quality is superior to most others. Sony, Samsung or Toshiba for LCD. Hitachi for plasma. Go to Best Buy
