What are your elevator expectations in today's more gender-neutral business world?

Of course, everyone gets to leave on their floor.

If you are a man, do you still wait for the women to exit first? If you are a woman, do you expect to exit first? Or do you go by the "closest to the door" rule?

Do the same rules apply for entering the elevator as well?

I tend to be non-gender-specific but I wonder if any women get offended. Your thoughts?

Never crossed my mind. Sometimes I let people on before me, but it's not related to gender -- I just want to be curteous. As for getting off, I'm generally a fan of "most practical exit strategy."

I wonder if I've ever offended any woman by walking on before her... hmmm....

Good question.

I am a woman and use the elevator daily at work.

I am not usually one to care about these things, but I always take notice when a man gets into the elevator before a woman. I think it really affects me when the woman is the one who called the elevator in the first place.

Those are the rules I see - if you call the elevator, you should have th rights to get on first and get the best position in the elevator.

As for when you leave the elevator, I think it is a last in, first out sequence.
If there are only a few people on the elevator, let the women go first...you'll get a good look at their behinds anyway!!

I go by the whoever is closest to the door thing. If there's anyone next to or in back of me and they don't get out before I do then that's their problem... not everyone can move lightening speed ofcourse!

It doesn't matter to me, but "closest to the door" seems more efficient.
