The short answer is you do not have the right program (or it's configured wrong) to vie that file. "what programs do i need to view the attachments?" Depends on what the file is. The extension gives it away.

You can do a number of things, but one you might want to try is this: Right click on the graphic and see if you have a program that can view it (Such as Windows Media Viewer). Go To Open With. There is a check box that you can check to make sure you always use this program to open these kinds of files. Another thing you can try is check out the properties of the file. If it says unknown, try changing the extension to .jpeg, or .jpg, or .gif, or .bmp. You'll get a warning that says if you do this you may not be able to open up the file. These are the most common formats, so one of these is likely to work.

well because the file is not in a format that is supported, it means your computer can't understand what the program is trying to say, they speak different languages and a computer won't guess. contact the person that sent it and tell them to send another picture, this is unusual because pic formats are pretty standard things.

the picture may not be associate with anything, so your best bet is to RIGHT CLICK on the picture... click on OPEN WITH and perhaps try to open with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
