Because the bible is an imaginative creation or a pretense that does not represent actuality but has been invented. Also known as FICTION.

In the bible it is customary only to mention the names of men who were important in working out God's purposes. Women are rarely mentioned. The fact that only two sons are mentioned does not of itself assure there were no other sons. The bible does NOT say there were only four people at that time.
Notice in Gen 1:20 that Eve was to become the mother of everyone living. It is quite possible she had daughters first as in Chap 4:1 she gave birth and said "I have produced a man with the aid of God." Perhaps she needed his help to have a boy child. That she may have had other sons and daughters before Abel is allowed for in verse 2 which says LATER she again gave birth to his brother Abel. This may as well been after the birth of more daughters.
Verse 3 of Chapter 4 mentions "and it came about after the expiration of some time....." In Chap 5:4 it gives an indication of the length of a life time in the beginning of man, a whopping nine hundered or more years. When you consider how population has increased in the United States in the last three hundred years, it can thus be assumed that enough years passed for the birth of many more sons and daughters. Then, too, all those sons and daughers had children.
In relation to the "East". The land of Eden was possibly the size of what is now known as our modern day Turkey. In that land the Garden of Eden was set out to the East of the land of Eden.
The actual entrance to The Garden of Eden was even placed to the East of the Garden as well. When man was put out of the Garden, he spread out possibly along the rivers mentioned. The woman who Cain chose as a wife possibly came from the area closer to the Garden which would be considered East in the land of Eden.
In Gen 4:16, Cain took up residence, not in the land of Eden where the Garden had been, but way off in another land bordering Eden called the land of Fugitveness to the East of the land of Eden.

The bible does not say that Cain and Abel were Adam and Eve's only children. Just that they had two sons, as in "including but no limited to." There were probably atleast a couple of generations of humans by this time.

Often, apparent inconsistencies can be resolved if we just look at the context. Consider, for example, the often-raised problem about Cain’s wife. As is well known, Cain killed Abel; but after that, we read that Cain had a wife and children. (Genesis 4:17) If Adam and Eve had only two sons, where did Cain find his wife?
Where did Cain get his wife? Is there a logical Bible answer?
Yes, there is. It is pointed to in the very instructions given to Adam and Eve shortly after their creation, namely: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it.”—Gen. 1:28.
Obedience to this command would require that Adam and Eve have children. Then these children, in turn, would marry and bear children. This process of reproduction by succeeding generations would need to continue in order to fill the earth in harmony with God’s purpose.
The solution lies in the fact that Adam and Eve had more than two children. According to the context, they had a large family. At Genesis 5:3 we read that Adam became father to another son named Seth and then, in the following verse, we read: “He became father to sons and daughters.” (Genesis 5:4) So Cain could have married one of his sisters or even one of his nieces.
At that early stage of human history, when mankind was so close to perfection, such a marriage evidently did not pose the risks for the children of the union that it would today.
It is probable that, while yet alive, Abel had sisters; the record mentions the birth of daughters to his parents, but their names are not recorded. (Ge 5:1-4)
Cain went into banishment in “the land of Fugitiveness to the east of Eden,” taking with him his wife, an anonymous daughter of Adam and Eve. (Ge 4:16, 17; compare 5:4, also the much later example of Abraham’s marriage to his half sister Sarah, Ge 20:12.)

The Bible did not say she came from the East do not tell people that. Genesis 4:16And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
It said that Cain dwelt in the land and knew is wife (had sex with her) it didn't say that he went down there and found her.
Also, the Bible didn't record every detail but it recorded every truth. If Adam and Eve lived to be 930 yrs old do you think that they only had four children in the first 20 yrs or so? The commandment God gave them in Genesis chapter one was to be fruitful and multiply and that is exactly what they did and they were very healthy than any other human thus they would have very little chance of having a miscarriage of such.

Cains wife was his twin sister Luluwa, Seth married Abel's twin Qelima. You must understand that the Bible is a Patrilineal Book, that is ONLY the male lines are important because the inheritance comes FROM the male line. ONLY IN THE CASE OF ONE CHILD IN JEWISH LAW and that child being female, can the female inherit. Since all these males were born to the children of Adam and Eve there WAS NO REASON TO MENTION THE FEMALES. They simply WERE NOT IMPORTANT. These children of Adam and Eve were one generation removed from perfection and had no genetic diseases to pass along, therefore God had no taboo's yet on incest. It takes 10 generations to "set" in a genetic defect into a mammalian species (which would be Noah's generation) and 5 generations in plants (botany).
Also, Eve lived in the East at this time, having separated from Adam and no, not like in a divorce. Its a long story, and I don't feel like typing it here. Needless to say, they re-united and lived long and fruitful lives; dying within days of each other and then were placed into the Cave of Treasures together.

Cain and Abel were the first two. They had other children besides those two. And yes - Cain married his own sister. We are the results - a world of degenerate "mongoloid" children of a brother-sister marriage.
But - wait - They all died. Adam and Eve had other children, and Noah was NOT a decendent of Cain, but of their third child, and by that time, there were plenty of cousins to marry.
We're STILL a world of degenerates, compared to Adam and Eve. They are the stuff that myths are made of - Herculeas, Venus, etc. were all designed from the ideal first parents from the wistful and wishful thinking and daydreaming of people remembering their first parents, and the incredible differences between them and us.

The Bible also said that Adam and Eve had other sons and daughters. I know, it is a little disgusting but you have to understand a few things.
One, our genetic code back then was perfect since God created us. He created us perfect. And there were no genetic problems that would result.
Two, laws against incest didn't come about until much later, when genetic problems began to occur.
And now today, incest is wrong.
And don't think evolution would have worked out any differently. The very first humans had to have been closely related. But then they would have the genetic problems that would result from it.
There was no other way for them to produce all of us today. And it is fact that we are all related to each other no matter how distant.
So there's your answer.

Actually the bible says that Adam and Eve had many sons and daugters. The prohibition to not marry within you family did not come until the laws were given to Moses hundreds/thousands of years later for this reason. Cain married one of his sisters.

what your not taking into effect, is that people during that time period in the bible lived a really, really long time. although Cain's wife was probably some distant cousin (still, yuck), he probably didn't even get a wife until he was at least 80 some, and she was probably much younger than he was.
even moses (who is far past the beginning point in the bible) lived until he was like, 600-and-some or 800-and-some! it took him like 400 years to build the ark according to older records... and people in moses's time wernt living nearly as long as the people that lived before him (supposedly)
so believe whatever you want to believe. nothing is 100% for certain, because nothing can be proven from this long ago. the people that supposedly found the ark on mount sinai or wherever (however you spell it) even they cant even prove it really was the ark.

Well the only way they could get married would be to there sisters. and that is not taboo back then , like it is now. But as time went by there were still brothers and sister who did marry, but that was then and this is now, and jail time would be the results now days.
