And for those who don't understand, when one refers to America, nearly everyone in the world KNOWS that you are referring to the United States and it's people

And for those illegals criminals that have been sending me messages saying that wanting English only in America is racist, think again. In Germany they speak German. In France they speak French. In Spain they speak Spanish. In Mexico they speak a slightly different version of Spanish than they do in Spain. In Japan they speak Japanese. In American we speak ENGLISH!

The reason Americans speak english is because of the Muhlenberg Vote (has to do more with translating docs. in German)

a) Some of the Founding Fathers spoke more than one lanuage.

b) Agree

c) English and Latin "E Plurbus Unum" is all bills and coins

d) Depends what time period you are talking about- but after all the indians and other wars that followed yes English has been the offical lanuage

e) There were several lanuages spoken before the founding the US your elimiating all the lauages spoken by immigrants that came from Europe during the1600's to the 1700's . French, Swedish, German, Dutch, Russian, Finish and Spanish. Not to mention all the Native Americans, Najavo, Sioux etc..

f) Majority of the people should have a good understanding of the English lanuage. The US should follow examples of how European countries teach recent immigrants the lanauge they have to take a lanuage class in whatever the countries offical lanuage is before they can become residents. But in school Europeans are required to learn the grammatics of their own lanuage and also are required to at least have one other lanuage. I think this is helpful since we are working in a global ecomony and it helps while traveling.

Because our forefather's from England spoke English, and helped free Americans from the British invasion. These great men, then made laws to protect, and encourage the growth of America, They created a dream for the simple people, not a dream for the wealthy, that is why the Declaration of Independence was designed. After the previous, Mexican, and Spanish, then French invaders were defeated it was the English that not only conquered the Indians, but gave them a new language, as well as laws. After the past was settled, and Indians, and Americans learned to live together, they also learned to fight together, ie, the Alamo. These English men also gave the Indians hope that they would always be protected from invading countries.
That is why the English language is the official American Language. And, it is as unique as the American people, why would we want to give that up? Ever heard British English, in comparison to American English. It is as different as Mexican Spanish, and Spain's Spanish are. Each country has a common language that helps in the country's survival, and the survival of the people. America is no different. If I move to Mexico, unlikely, but if I did I would not only learn the language, but the laws, that is what shows I have good intentions in the country.

If you knew the story of your country you'd know you are way off the real answer. The reason why english is spoken in the United States OF America (Not in all America) is because when the British came and took over all the land which is now USA and Canada they imposed their culture all over the upper part of America (the continent). By the way, English hasn't always existed in this continent before that many dialects used by the original native American (mayans, redskins, aztecs, etc). But they were extinguished by the British and the Spanish people (which took our gold).
Edit: Regarding SGT. CECH post, English isn't the hardest language to speak. If anything it is one of the easiest in existance today. Why do you think North Americans have a f**kload of trouble learning other languages? ;)

Edit: Still don't care if you mean US by America. It still isn't correct seeing as how the whole continent was named America and you guys have no right to think that we all revolve around you

Edit: Love your answer Wild Angel.

America was a British colony, thus people spoke English. A,B,C,E, and F are results of that. D is an opinion. The founding fathers actually considered German as a possibility and the Turkey for the National Bird.

let me play the opposition on this one, ok?

The real reason English is the official language is that the founding fathers were racists (many had slaves).
Even though hey taught their slaves English, they saw the future and knew that illegals would soon cause a HUGE quagmire, and their zeal to "GET THEM", was the inspiration for English. English is notoriously hard for latin based language speakers to handle!
all the hidden and silent lettersand for crying out loud we have 3 ways to say the sound (TOO).
The only reason for English is to keep (insert an ethnicity here) down!!

Or it could be that of the 3 major countries to settle the 'new world' (England, France, and Spain listed alphabetically), England was the one that spawned the 13 colonies that eventually kicked the most butts here and took over the northern part of M America!

In case you haven't noticed, the United States is the only country that does not encourage speaking more than one language; the rest of the world is multi-lingual. Eso quiere decir que sin cranio se puede pisotear tu mierda pregunta, ninita fea. Porque no usas el cuadrito para no ver tu horrible carita?

What do you call the language spoken by that Hadenough? Wouldn't she be better off learning English than living behind her computer?

One more thing, what kind of language is spoken by KELLY? You didn't provide a category for her English.

I say the reason we speak English is because that's what language was spoken by the people who stole this country from the Native Americans.

G. Plus the fact that we can use it as a standard measure of intelligence. English is considered one of the most difficult languages to learn. We know that French is easy since the frogs speak it.
