A very good friend of mine describes himself as an atheist. I asked him why a while back and he said for one thing the "Crusades" against the athesit. I then asked him when did these crusades happen he thought and said.. about 50 to 100 years ago. I explained to him that the crusades happened between 1095-1270 AD and it wasn't against the athesit..well he said it's because science proved there is no God back in the 60's but the Christians won't allow the truth...they control everything..he rattled several other bogus aguments..but they all seem to circle around these claims of victomhood...trust me he's no victom I'veown him since 2nd grade.
So why the rush to victimization? Is there some unseen honor..or does this somehow give a justifation.
It just looks like any moment they will grabs hands and sing "we shall over come"...give me a break!

oh..he blames the "Christian Founders" for slavery, diease of the indians etc..
then switches later and say's the founders were not Christians..it's too funny!

Do not judge all Atheists on your friend. It sounds like he doesn't have a very good grasp of history or religion, he's probably just asking for pity.
I am an Atheist, and I don't care if I'm a 'victim' or not because of it. I don't know much about Atheists historically (and I'm sure there are many more), I just don't believe in God and that's that. Knowing about some struggle against Atheists at some point in time will not affect that fact.

He doesn't want to be a Christian from a cultural viewpoint that European Christians were mere mortals(maybe without the HolyGhost of Scripture) which caused negative effects.But Christians usually love God and Jesusfor the spiritual reason,that they offer salvation.I tell people I'm an Atheist because I don't want a completely churchy existence,not due to the Crusades.

If your friend is truly that stupid, then he deserves your scorn. But are you certain that all atheists deserve to be thrown in the same boat?
You should also be aware that people from all over the world, including some atheists, but also peoples of other religions, and Christians themselves, are very worried about the growing threat of Christian fundamentalism in the United States. Why? Because the US has enough military might to destroy the planet, and there are leaders in politics and religion, who believe that it is their duty to fulfill Christian prophesy by hastening judgment day. If you think that isn't a matter for concern, then you are as silly as your friend.

Not all Atheists are acting like victims, but unfortunately all religions have members with persecution complexes. You just have to look over them and remember that most groups have good people that just believe differently from you.

I could then say that I hate Italians because 2,000 years ago, Romans persecuted my people?
That makes no sense.
The best way I can put it is that faith is a GIFT so although it is offered to everyone, not everyone accepts it. This gift allows us to believe that God exists and that He loves us.
Some people choose not to accept this gift and so, do not believe in God.
