Shedding is normal and you'll never get rid of it entirely. Brush your cat every few days to help with dead hair that gets on your furnature. The most important tool for eliminating excess shedding is diet. What does your cat eat? Look at the food labels. Avoid foods with a lot of corn or meat and bone meal. Also stay away from foods that have different colored pieces. That will rule out foods like whiskas, friskies, and cat chow along with a slew of lesser known brands. Feed a food with real meat as the 1st ingredient. Rice should be prominant in the ingrediants instead of corn. Eukanuba, Nutro, Innova, Eagle along with many other premium foods will enhance your cat's coat, eliminate excess shedding, reduce litterbox odor, and improve overall health. Though a bit more expensive than many foods, you will save in the long run through fewer vet trips and you'll avoid the inconvienent shedding.

1. Good quality food. Most cats suffer from poor nutrition, which is most evident in their coats and how much they shed.

2. The ShedEnder. I've recommended to people on here before, because I absolutely love it. I use it on my cat once a week and I haven't had to sweep nearly as often. It gently pulls out the nasty loose hair that she'd normally shed all over the house. It's about $10. She absolutely loves it! It's like a back scratcher for cats!

AWW!!! KITTY!!
Anyways...you should try grooming it more. If you don't or hardly groom it at all it will be prone to more furballs and you really don't want those!! If it is an old cat, it is semi-normal for it to shed more.
Plus this is shedding season, cats grow more fur in winter then shed it off in summer (I'm guessing you live somewhere where it is summer).
If the cat is shedding WAY too much and your seeing bald spots... i would go see the vet and they will give you professional advice!!
tell kitty i say hi!!

Not really. About the only thing that will help is to brush the hair regularly and to avoid changing it's food. A good diet can help some.

I have one too (formal name is domestic short haired, red mackerel!!) , so I know what you are talkin about, but, I just brush him everyday, and it really does help to minimize the shedding. Are you feeding your cat "good" food?

My cat is short-haired too, and I find light grooming every day is a good help. Although it can be hard if hes playful!

You could take him outside and brush him daily. This should help a little.
