I wanna be an AD, which is Aviation Machinist Mate. Can somebody talk to me about Aircrew?
What do they do? Is the only difference is that they get on planes?
Will it be better and more exciting??

you start out in ur shop and once u know what your doing and they like you you might get to get on the planes. im not sure about AD but i was AE with a s3viking squadron...so yes, if you get to be aircrew its much more prestigeous and less boreing especially if ur deployed overseas or on a carrier.

AD is a cool job. If you go aircrew you will have to go through aircrew survival school called SEAR. It's a fake pow school where you are put and try to escape. If you are an AD aircrew I'm not sure but only know of a couple of planes that have AD aircrew, all of which are large and do not land on carriers. So if you go aircrew AD you would probably be stationed at a base and not a carrier. I think you also get a couple of points for advancement with your wings (not much help but a little).

The aircrew are aviators. In the Navy, you could serve as loadmaster, flight engineer or navigator in C-130, as well as flight engineer or airborne radar technician for E-2 Hawkeye AEW, sonar/weapons technician in anti submarine squadrons, or as a search and rescue diver.

you will probably be stationed on an aircraft carrier, working a strenuous, intense 16-18 hr days 7 days a week, better and exciting I dont want to be negative if thats want you want to do, but my personal experience i would say definitely not. and no matter what only believe about 50% of what the recruiters are telling you. good luck
