Mostly it feels tiring.
I love living in NYC but it ain't for sissy's. You are out in the weather a lot, because most people take public transportation (its cheaper and easier here). Without boring you with details, it is physically challenging to live here and that is before you begin to think about the cost. The amount of space you get for the money is very tight. I recently had to do some apartment shopping. Some places had a second bedroom that was no more than a walk-in closet. So that is another factor.
The church scene in New York is very diverse. You can go to a church with a Lesbian pastor, or one that sounds like you're in South Carolina. There has been a huge wave of contemporary evangelical churches being planted in the city in the last 10 years.
That said, most people either love or hate New York. I happen to be one of those who loves it.

You're crazy. Of course we have good churches. Believe it or not, New Yorkers are quite religious. You always see every race and religion heading to their respective services. Sunday mornings everyone is going to church.
New York is not about having lots of stuff and lots of money. The standard of living is so high here. Rent is expensive, taxes are high, and the expectations at work are high. If you can't work hard and play hard then you don't belong here. New York is a city driven by dreams, determination, and hard work. Everyone I know in New York works hard for their careers, family, and life, and in the end if we get a nice paycheck, well we deserve it.
I work 14 hours a day, can you say you do the same? That is why I get paid what I get paid, because of my hard work.
Here are a list of "good church" in New York
1. New York Journey
2. Time Square Church
3. Morningstar Church
4. Redeemer Presbyterian
But there are even more. What makes you think you are holier than us? Because we make more money and we don't have churches? Take your ignorance else where. Don't disrespect New Yorkers. Don't say anything ignorant especially if you haven't visited here and had a glimpse of what happens. Were you here for 9/11??? Then you didn't see all the prayer circles taking place all over the city.

I like where I live but I'd like to live in NewYork Too,even though I think it's gritter.I'd like an apartment in one of those old industrial buildings, but there are nice places to dwell there too.I 'd go every week by local train if I could,I'm attracted to the place.I'm on the East Coast anyway.I thought N.Y.C. Clubs were zany-er than where I'm at.

its amazing. unlike any other place. born and raised and i have my share of stories trust me.
to answer your question, yes people go to church. not everyone obviously, there are many different cultures/religions/beliefs here.
i've grown up here privledged, but i still am aware of the cost of living in the city. first of all housing is terribly expensive and so is the education, especially a good one, however i think its totally worth it and it opens the doors for many other opportunities.
other than that, its just a fun city. never boring, there is ALWAYS something going on and the food is the best, the shopping, the nightlife, everything. i love it.

I have a friend that lives in Poughkepsie (guess that's spelled right) which is about an hour drive from NYC. She lived in my city before she moved back to her hometown in NY. She's been back there for 6 years and now she wants to move back here. They do get paid more but the cost of living there is so extreme that it doesn't really balance out.

New York is great for travel. It's terribly overrated for living.
