Erythromycin should be fine to use for now. Use it once or twice a day. If it doesn't begin to improve in a couple of days, you may want to take him to the vet and have him stain the eye to make sure it is not scratched....although he will give you the same ointment! Just keep the goop out of the eye by using a cloth soaked in warm water and gently cleaning the eye. Good luck!!

youve held the antibiotic in your hand and placed it on a finger or touched it and then it was out of the fridge right,, it can be out of date ,,any drug kept out and not used after its prescription ,,can break down ,,,and could cause more trouble,, some havent got much shelf life at all , also even alcohol and peroxides can be contaminated by sticking a dirty finger or a bloody one in it,, i found that out reading the medical reports ,in the newspapers ,,an olde dude

my dog hurt his leg and i gave him advils a few days in a row and he was just fine... the vet gave him perscription anti-biotics and my girlfriend's dad is a doctor and said they're the same ones humans get (penicilin)... so it should be fine
keep in mind:
before anyone gives their lap dogs advils, my dog is an 80 pound pit bull and i gave him 2 per day (one in the AM, one in the PM)

I would not administer any medication until you find out exactly what it is and then only use the proper canine medication your vet prescribes.
