when downloading movies what is the difference between avi,mov,mpg and qt?which do i choose to download movies?thanks for the info

They are different media formats:

avi is a wrapper for many different types of codex.
qt / mov is quick-time (avoid).
mpg is mpeg.

Usually you want something marked Xvid. avi can be a pain if you dont have all the latest codex. divx is also OK but keeps changing so can be a pain.

You should be careful downloading movies, I hear they fine you loads of money these days...

They are just different format for storing movies created by different companies. AVI, MPG and WMV will all play on any Windows PC using Windows build in Media Player. MOV and QT require a player called QuickTime that is made by Apple (Free download).
