And, if on the other hand he did (as some have suggested, even before the Da Vinci Code) why does this notion so upset religious people?

When it comes to Jesus the Bible only mentions his birth, his ministries, and his death. We wont know until we see him face to face if he was ever married ... he actually could have been... the Bible however concentrated on the more important things that we need to know.

There are teachings in the Bible about marriage and its sacred institution... But just because it is a 'sacred institution' doesnt mean that Jesus had to marry, it just means that if he did marry then he would have to respect the sacred institution like the rest of us.

I truly believe that the marrital status of Jesus does not and did not matter. What matters is that he was without sin and a sacrifice for all of us, and if he was married then i hope that the Christians of his time took care of his widow since the Bible teaches us to care for our widows.

Maybe he just didn't find the right girl?

It's not the notion of Jesus being married that offends most people about the Da Vinci Code. It is Dan Brown's the implication that "everything that the church has taught you about Jesus is a lie". That is what offends people.

I am one that does believe that he married; as to why this upsets people: They don't want to believe any other way than what the bible says. But the bible has been refitted for MAN'S benefit. This is just my opinion. I know that you will get many other completely different ones. And I am also very glad that there are people out there that realize that this belief did NOT stem from the Da Vinci Code!(You need to report the first guy for that fghssfg crap he did)

He had a mission to accomplish and it didn't include having a family. I feel pretty religious and the Da Vinci Code's premise doesn't upset me, though I still don't believe it.

Believing that Jesus came from a Virgin, was the Son of God and performed miricles on a daily basis, means that he was serving a purpose which is read to be that he would come and die for our sins. He was only on Earth to be a Holy Man and that's it. Marriage wasn't in the cards for him.
Why this upsets Religious people is because Jesus is supposed to only have come to Earth for this reason. Marriage, children or anything else is simply a distraction to his sole purpose.

who says that he wasnt married, did u know that a bunch of men decided what went in to the bible and what didnt, like some books that were destroyed and texts that were changed - i understand da vinci code is fictional but the fact remains how the bible came to be , makes you wonder what else is being hidden from us

Marriage is a sacred institution, not a necessity.

And as for Jesus being married, it's annoying because it isn't true. They're basing it on non canonical stuff, not the actual bible itself.

Holy Orders is also a sacred institution, so why don't some people not become priests?

It is all about paths. Certain people are meant to be married and others are meant to be priests.

Prophet Jesus will marry a unknown woman on his second coming as the follower of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) together with Imam al-Mahdi (ajfs) to bring justice to the world.

It upsets the religious comminuty because its false.A person has a right to their own opinion but not their own facts.Reason why jesus didnt marry was because He came to save the lost not to procreate.
