I have heard that even though someone quits using an illegal substance and go through the programs they will still always urge for it.

i think that people have addictive personalities, i am one of them. i choose though not to use drugs or smoke.
i have other addictions though.
and yes i feel you will always crave your addictions even though you are rehabilitated.
usually it takes something negative happening to change your way of thinking.

I've heard the same thing. But,it's called a recovering addict. I think it's because people will always get the urge to "try it again" just one more time. They think they can control the urge, but statistics show they can't. I relay feel sorry for those people that have to fight such a hard battle. I have watched many of my friend's fight the same thing's,for year's! Drug's steal your life.

once an addict....ALWAYS an addict.

This isn't just for illegal substances. alcohol, cigarettes, sex, gambling, food, shopping and all the other addictions there are out there.

I used to smoke....and now I don't but I am not one of those people who can go out drinking and have just one cigarette....If I did that I would be right back to smoking......

Once an addict always an addict is true. Believe me I've seen enough people around me to know that.

They may not necessarily have an urge, but you never recover from addiction. You are always one drink, one shot, one joint away from full blown addiction. Period. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Anyone who tells you anything different either does not know what they are talking about or they are in denial.

Yes... but for some addicts, they have to find something else to fill that void.. normally volunteering helps. But that "want" never goes away
