do u mean a cleft lip.
its a congenital disease when the 3 bones formong the palatte and the upper jaw dont fuse properly.
a very simple cosmetic surgery will correct the defect with no residual effects at all.

If you mean cleft palate, you're born with it. It comes from having sex (by your parents).

I think you mean cleft lip, which is actually a cleft pallate. You're born with it...

as all the others have said your born with it. also it's passed on from one to another what I'm saying is it's inherited my ex wife had one as did her son according to the plastic sergon who fixed her son males get it more often
