I keep reading people say to atheists/evolutionists where did the energy and matter come from in the universe?

I of course don't have a credible scientific response.

But my question is this. What happens to theism when there is a credible scientific answer? One that eliminates the need for a God to have been the start of the universe? Does this mean that you would believe in God contingent upon there not being an answer, and what happens to the faith when there is such an answer?

Growing up, I was never thought to say that science goes against God.
I think what is happening is that science is actually eliminating the idols of god, not the God.

If science finds evidence that goes against the current Christian beliefs then it means their religion is not correct. Same rule applys for all religion and then at the end if you see a religion that has all the information that science is discovering now then would you still doubt that God doesn't exist?

Of course there will be religions who will call science evil because they are afraid about science will expose their lies about their religion. Nothing is wrong with that.

The lack of a credible scientific answer to the question of where the matter and energy in the Universe came from, points to a source which the scientific community at large will not accept. They keep looking for a physical cause and will never find one because the Universe sprang from the energy in the Spirit, which many refer to as The Light.

The energy and matter of the Universe came from The Light on the Other Side, which The Original Creator used to orchestrate The Big Bang.

This problem in understanding among the scientifically dogmatic is only further frustrated by the fact that no physical machine can create matter. Only Spirit can create matter.

Theism and Deism will never go away because a physical cause for the Universe will never be found.

How it all started is the ultimate chicken or egg question. The former currently being unanswerable if you are honest with yourself, but the latter could be explained away with evolution - if you presume evolution to be the correct response.

The trouble with "how it all started" is that it makes certain human assumptions:

1. Human life is finite, so the life span of the universe must be finite.

2. If nothing existed before, how do you explain the laws of conservation of energy and matter? These laws must be inherently negated by a spontaneous starting of existence. Even if the universe poured out from another, pre-existing universe, such an answer fumbles back into the first problem - that there was no beginning.

That said, one answer that is not explored is that the universe has always been here and is infinite and that it is just the generation of our insignificant portion that we bicker about, but is generally ignored by the rest of existence. So if we were to wipe ourselves out, for example, nobody living several galaxies away would care. We're that insignificant.

The problem is the human ego, which apparently knows no bounds in assuming self-importance.

On the other hand, proving or disproving a certain "how it all started" solution would not destroy religion. Certain religions, such as Taoism, would not feel any impact whatsoever, such that your Christians could easily convert to something else if they needed to continue being religious.

This is not a well stated question because the premise presumes an eventuality; namely that science will provide a credible answer for "where did the energy and matter come from."

If you want to know what would happen if...blah, blah, blah then the answer would be that the Christian, other theists, would either choose to continue to believe in a god that has been disproved or they will turn away from their beliefs and join the ranks of the atheist/evolutionist.

Using your format, however, a question could be posed that goes like this: "What will you do when you die and are faced with the Almighty God. Will you fall down on your knees and cry out 'Praise to You Who was and is and is to come!!" And then you will come to know how much God loves you and wanted to have a relationship with you but you would not turn. After this, you will receive what you have struggled for all of your life: i.e. an eternity away from fellowship with Him Who made you.

Hope this helps...

just because you find a way for things to happen without the use of a Creator doesn't discount the possibility.

Sciences are marked with the suffix -ology, meaning the study of. Theology is the study of theism the same as Geology is the study of the Earth. therefore, Theology is as much a science as Geology. Since Theology is as much a Science as Geology, Creation Theory is as much a scientific possibility as the Big Bang Theory. More so, Creation Theory could be inclusive of the Big Bang Theory, as God could have started everything by causing a collision (especially if he turns out to be a woman, then it would explain EVERYTHING).

the point being, until anything is mathematically proven to wrong, it is still a possibility. anything not proven mathematically true can still be wrong.

for me, if God is proven mathematically non-existent, i will still live according to the morals and outlines stated in the bible and teach them to others as the correct way to live. God or no God, the bible is true in finding lasting joy and peace.

The problem here is that people think that evolution and science and religion can't exist in the same plane. What is wrong with believing in God, believing Genesis a parable, and that evolution is true, too? It can happen, my parents, for instance, believe this way.

Even if science finds an answer to this question, people will still believe in a God. Humans desire to believe in something greater than themselves. And miserable humans NEED to believe in something greater than themselves. If you are living in a 3rd world country eating dirt and sticks, it's hard to get through life every day. Believing in an afterlife makes earthly life that much easier.

Thank you general.
It has been my contention that these half-baked anti-science rants cheapen the profound religiosity of many scientists. They also debase what these same good folks feel was a gift from God - intelligence and discernment. They devil had nothing to do with their outstanding achievements.

By the way, some great theoretical work is being done precisely on the issue the origin of our universe. I hope to live to see some of the results.

Energy can never be created nor destroyed, otherwise there would be an imbalance in the universe. The notion that there was a beginning to the universe seems to clarify this. All energy is transferred or redirected, absorbed or released.

The religious people will spin in circles for a while before they find another way to justify their belief in god. These people are not exactly rational to begin with so they are not bound by logic. They will simply deny the new answer and believe what they want.

Science can not "eliminate" God... All science is from God... He put all that man can ever know in place for us to "discover"... There for, all science is good.

It is man mucking about with science that has caused all the trouble for mankind from all the misuse of God's Science... If man would use Science in the way God intendes... We would all have lives of great abundance and pleasure in this mortal world.

When we get much closer to figguring out all of God's science we will be much closer to what he wants us to be... and We will be much closer to Him...
