The old meaning was that gods are beings of great mystical power that live in another realm or dimension such as Valhalla or Heaven or the Happy Hunting Grounds, all of which may or may not be assumed to be where a person goes after they die. Additionally, to differentiate them from other such beings such as elves or faries, these beings are worshipped - objects of human devotion. In contrast, demi-gods are beings of legendary status that others seek to emulate or personify a quality (often admirable).

In recent decades or centuries, however, the meaning has been simplified to be things a person worships or allows to take control of their llife. For example, some people have called television a "god." Evidence of this includes how people have allowed certain words to become squishy in meaning, such as "ritual." Example: "I went through my morning ritual of showering, eating breakfast, brushing my teeth, and reading the paper" suggests some religious (religion being a social structure focused on the worship of a god or gods) connection, yet there is none. Perhaps the humans have now become enslaved to their habits?

The concept of enslavement to a god is also expressed in those saying to worship a god or god-thing. For example, Islam is said to literally BE the word submission, which means to enslave oneself to a god. Christians call their god their master as a slave would call their owner.

All that said, given the number of humans that appear willing to enslave themselves - let alone by someone else, I would guess that the earth is ripe for domination, which is probably the sort of information that a General Zod would want to know...

Well I think we have more than 3000 years of people asking themselves and others that question. My opinion - no clear answer. But if you ask other people, you'll probably get quotes from the Bible, the Quaran, Vedic Texts, or Buddhist Manuscripts, as well as "Opium for the Masses" and "A lovely fairy tale".

Hey Dude. I'm not answering any more of your questions because you can't possibly read the answers to the ones that you've asked in the short time that you have before you ask another very unspecific question. Seeeee ya.

Hi Zod, how's the rest of the gang?

To those who let the F word (faith) rule their lives, he is the answer to everything.

To those who use logic, science and common sense he is one of the main problems with the world, responsible for wars, racism, closed-mindedness and nonsense.
