Without doing any research I'm going to make some guesses about Friday's.
1. The chain's official name is likely "TGI Friday's," much like "KFC" now. There is no other meaning, officially, attached to the initials.
2. If pressed, the company would probably claim that the "TGI" stands for "Thank Goodness It's," not "Thank God It's," just to avoid the type of wariness you are talking about.

I love the cheesecake factory. Not for the cheesecake but for the wonderful lettuce wraps and hula salad and several other things. Applebees comes in next and then Fridays. I don't care for chilis as much.

LMAO - That's funny. I'm sure they all eat there, so they can badger the staff about the name of the restaurant. Then they probably dine and dash and stiff the waiter...as they rush to the mall to buy Christmas presents!

I've never heard of TGIF having any kind of religious afflilation so I can't see why anyone would boycott the chain based upon that. now if they boycotted it because of the lousy food...I could understand...
